Wagon Adventurer
« on: February 27, 2012, 01:09:17 pm »

In older versions (and I beleive current ones, but its really hard to determine them from pack animals if they still exist) wagons were (technically) living creatures not unlike a sponge with wheels, some even showed up in legends mode (the wagon Grehel the industrious toe was wrecked in the dwarven city of Shipassasinated. )
Can you play as one by modding the game (adding the tags that allow speach and learning of course)
because that would be hilarious.

Also +1 for the person to notice the incredibly lame stealth pun.

I did some modding, found out that the [EQUIPMENT_WAGON] tag prevents a creature from being controllable, removed it, and...

Well, it turns out wagons need legs to stand up. And eyes. For seeing. I was wandering around, absolutely blind, crawling on the floor, with a mortal injury (presumably due to the fact that I had no vital organs). I didn't instantly die, but it wasn't exactly a success either.

Shipassasinated? sounds like it would be a new boatmurdered story.

300 human/elf/dwarf/goblin/kobold bodies 20 random animal/fish/bird bodies and 3 dragon bodies all in one backpack. fun stuff.

Thats a shame that they aren't viable adventurers, but still thank you for your contribution to dwarven !!SCIENCE!!

That reads like some adventurer pissed off a god, and got cursed to roam the earth in the form of a wagon with all their senses intact.

I recall someone made them into a civ once, and they actually did pretty okay, winning quite a few battles... some how.

Mm? Not having internal organs doesn't bother giant sponges none.

Wagon body plan seems to include legs, they're just called wheels but categorized as legs. However, they don't seem to have a head.

I wonder if adding
   [NOBONES]
   [NO_EAT]
   [NO_DRINK]
   [NOTHOUGHT]
   [NO_THOUGHT_CENTER_FOR_MOVEMENT]
   [EXTRAVISION]

might not make wagons more viable adventurers?

It would probably also make them crawl by themselves, hence not needing to be pulled.

It is said knowledge is like a foul-smelling herb. It must be cooked well and thoroughly with experience to make it palatable. A young scholar's knowledge is therefore not only worthless but disgusting. -- In Dwarf Fortress you have another paradigm. Gather as much of that smelly herb as you can and toss it at your enemy, fracturing his skull through the +capybara man leather cap+.

The issue is that [EQUIPMENT_WAGON] is what makes them wagons.
If you remove it, they're just like any other single tile creature. Nothin' special.
