There's a mod for that?

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

considering the level of detail.

Complete lack thereof is considered a level now?

Yeah, I recall one that moves all functionality to a radial menu. Trying to find it.

ed: I believe this is it.

And that's how you effectively kill your own thread.

The thread was still useful for a WTF moment, though.

If the game gave us feedback it would be things like "Jesus God, you just made your miner dig himself a hole he can't get out of, and then designated a stairway that doesn't reach him. Are you a complete idiot?" and "You forgot that there are not one, not two, but five entrances to your fort and the three you didn't line with traps are closest to the most recent goblin ambush. You're a total retard."

Also, "If you don't make them cut trees, you won't have charcoal, and you won't be able to make any metal goods. Dumbass."

The quality of the feedback in the game absolutely reflects the nature of the game and the way it is meant to be played. Remember, losing is fun, and the best way to lose is to learn by doing.

Your dude is clearly unable to path to food that is not forbidden.

No. I said "No" to those as in "No, this did not solve it," rather than "No, HERP DERP I WILL NOT TRY THIS LOLZ." Try applying a modicum of thought before your knee-jerk defensive reaction.

Wrong again.

No. I was not talking about the mod.

Wow, try reading at least the first post. No.

So do you actually have any intention of telling us how your fortress is designed, what burrows you have set, what jobs you have set, and what mechanisms are in place that would prevent any movement so we can have even a miniscule ability of actually troubleshooting your specific issue, instead of being forced to rely on a set of fixes that work for most people who have this problem?

You complain about the game not giving you enough feedback, then you don't give us enough feedback to help?
