Boxing ring

What if there was a boxing ring added?

Located in the college district, the boxing ring requires an entry fee of $250, which is refunded upon winning a match. You send a liberal there on Fridays only, and he wins or loses a fight based on heart, injuries, strength, agility, and martial arts. If you win a fight, you choose in between making a little speech about an issue, or receiving a cash prize. The amount of money or political sway you get depends on how powerful the opponent was. If you go on a day that isn't Friday, you can pay $20 to train various boxing related skills and find out how hard the next fight will be. Win or lose, you'll probably come home from a match with some bruises.

At C+ gun laws, the boxing ring turns in to a dueling ring, where gunslingers try to shoot their opponent before they get shot, as determined by chance and pistol skill. Only fools would get themselves killed like that, so you may only enter a duel if you have wisdom below 5.

At L+ gun laws where boxing gloves are illegal, the boxing ring becomes a forum. You enter contests in the same manner, only you debate politics instead of boxing. Science, intelligence, and all those types of skills and stats affect your chance of winning. If you lose a debate, public opinion on that subject shifts conservative. if you win the debate, the public opinion becomes more liberal and you receive a prize based on the int of your opponent.

Think this idea could work?

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

I wasn't aware that Liberals or Conservatives were against organised violent sports.

Seems odd for L+ to ban it. It just doesn't flow given that Boxing gloves are not a weapon.

The whole point is that boxing gloves ARE a weapon at ludicrous levels of weapon control. Besides, a progressive liberal society would shun blood sports in favor of using one's mental muscles.

Odd given that I think it is the other way around. (Though we could track the UFC and see where it is banned just to make sure)

Also both conservatives and liberals think they are the smartest.

True, but this is a game where it's black and white morality. Liberalism is white in the satire universe of LCS.

This is a really cool idea that adds a bit of interesting gameplay and fun flavor to the game. The idea I would suggest is to take the debate forum idea and move it from being L+ specific to a standard feature on another day of the week -- the purpose of this would be to make the debate gameplay available even when the law isn't L+.

Does the game even register different days of the week, though? I know it registers different days of the month/year, but I don't think I've seen anything in the code relating to "weeks".

I don't think so. It could probably be reverse engineered, but that's a good point that it doesn't make much sense to base things on days of the week when nothing else in the game works that way. Maybe certain days of the month. 4th, 14th, 24th, that type of thing.

Well the debate forums would either be next to useless, or overpowered. Assuming we go the overpowered route, it would be a nice trick to have up your sleeve as the laws get more liberal and the difficulty increases. Or you could stick to your idea, and it could just gain effectiveness as free speech becomes more liberal.

Why would they have to be one extreme or the other?

It just seems a bit hard to balance.

Simple.

With freespeach as liberal. The impact of these public debates are limited.

While with Freespeach as Conservative you are genuinly risking something by publically speaking out. Yet you can get shot.

It is under the same theory of the game's Parabolic difficulty curve.

Hm , I like the idea of having an option to try to fix fights.

Perhaps if you had a couple of employees as sleepers?
