Forgotten Beast kills self and associated oddiness
« on: February 26, 2012, 11:57:16 pm »

A Gigantic sauropod arrived, with a huge belly. I should beware it's deadly dust.
And indeed. It went about the cavern, puffing clouds of dust, towards the amfibious cave lizardmen warband that had been peacefully chilling there, for lack of path into my fort, I suppose.
To my great amusement, every time it puffed a cloud of deadly dust, not only did it hurt the animal men, but also did it slam itself into an obstacle. It didn't take long for it to kill itself. Cause of death, excessive broken bone syndrome.

Two amfibious cave lizardmen survived, and one cave lizard woman. The woman got a name. I suppose she managed to get a hit in on the FB, and got named for doing part of the damge that killed it. Funny thing is, she now lists as 'friendly' in my unit list, while her two male companions are still hostile.
When I look at the surviving cavelizard people, their info screen shows a full page of rotten everything, and clogged with it's own blood everything. Their wounds overview does not show a single wound though, strangely. they don't seem to die from it.

A Gigantic sauropod arrived, with a huge belly. I should beware it's deadly dust.[/QUIOTE]Emphasis mine. Some dust attacks are treated like cave-in dust, blasting everything in range around. Since the creature is itself in range, it also blasts itself about. Fighting one of these with conventional military is going to be a disaster (all melee dwarves in range suffer cave-in effects every time), unless you can hit it from range with bolts/ballistae.

Such dusts can also be poisonous or necrosis-inducing, as in your lizard people.

Is it because light travels faster than sound,
that people appear bright until you hear them speak?

I had one too, usually it thrust the Dwarfs and itself up one z-level but its last blast was 4 levels high which killed the fb but none of the Dwarfs (or even the war dog.) Dumbass. Not a very useful method of defeating one's foes.
