Your favourite Video game Towns
« on: February 26, 2012, 05:08:43 pm »

I just asked this question in the towns forums:

Whats your favourite video game town/city? what made it special?

For me, it was always balmora (morrowind), i always felt the town was designed for runaway thieves, placing the thieves guild top balcony on a leap distance from the outer wall so no town guard could ever arrest you before you go and pay your self out of danger. Every time i was caught stealing, balmora was my go-to sanctuary.

Zozo. Hands down, to me, the best Town-that-is-not-a-town in any RPG.

Funny, that was my first thought too. Oh, the time? It's 2:30!

Rapture is a pretty cool place too. A city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small...

Clock Town from Majora's Mask, of course. So much personality.

I have to second this. Things were actually going on.

Haha, I asked my roommate this question and he said Figaro Castle from FF6, because it could TUNNEL ITSELF INTO THE EARTH.

I don't think that a castle really counts as a town, but I thought it was funny.   :P

Midgar from FF7.  No other town has come anywhere near being as bleak IMO.

Second choice is Los Santos from San Andreas.

New Vegas, from Fallout fame, has the undeniable old and new feel, with both the bleak and possible chance at a new beginning.

Beyond that, Kakariko Village was my first introduction to a damn good RPG.

The town you create in Breath of Fire II. Also, Sigil, City of Doors.

Narshe. Starting in a bleak town in who-knows-where, looking for an esper was a memorable experience for me.

Also, the village in the first Sims game.

Balmora, no doubt.  Vivec city had more to do, but Balmora always felt like home.

Newport from The Longest Journey series.
There isn't that much of the city to see, actually, just maybe a dozen locations total(TLJ are adventure games), and there isn't anything that remarkable about the city itself.
What I liked about it, was how it was shown to have changed between the two games of the series, reflecting the change in the characters. What was once a bright, carefree students' town, where young people enjoyed their youth in TLJ, turned into a darker, almost seedy place with rare inhabitants hiding behind heavy doors and surveliance cameras in TLJ2.

Oh wow... So many good cities on my mind...

Surprisingly, the first several that came to mind were Ultima series cities, Vesper from Ultima Online (Delucia too), Fawn from U7 part two, Bucaneers Den from U7...

But... I think I got to go with Xeron with New Reno for now... (but I gotta think on this, it's late and my brain is bad, might be some town I'm missing)
