After the untimely demise of my last adventurer, Queh Questhail (which sounds like a stutter to me) in a 550 year-old world, I decided to make another. I selected a human adventurer, once again in the same area. However, instead of being in a hamlet with other humans with the standard, "You've finally got your equipment together..." message, I instead woke up in a field filled with ducks and dogs. No message, just animals I thought it odd, since I was sure I didn't pick human outsider, but I started checking the place out.

I was somehow in a town filled with elves, and talking to an elvish crossbowman I accidentally asked him to join (I know, I know). I went to the nearest store, a bonecarver's shop, also with an elf in it. I asked him if he needed help, to which he responded that there was Quistra, a vampire, who had killed sixty-seven, in the keep a very short walk to the west (I asked again and he told me to kill the elf bandit that killed Queh). Thinking that everyone in the keep would help once I called the vampire out, I marched to the keep.

Once I arrived, I began searching the keep. I first checked the building in the center, and surprise surprise, there was Quistra, the exalted retinence "siege engineer". Not even realizing there was no one else in the area, I called him out. It basically went like this:

Me: You're a vampire, dude!

Quistra: Totally.

*Bronze bolt from my elf companion instantly hits him in the left lower arm and he drops his knife and eight crowns formed from bits of humans and elves.*

Another bolt hits him in the foot and he falls over. I begin my attack on the creature, just stabbing and slashing wherever possible (severing a lot of nerves), and my slash to his right lower arm hits him and he once again drops eight crowns. This makes him angry, but uselessly so as I strike the killing slash to his head. Proud of my kill, I look at the place where his body is, and find the sixteen crowns scattered around, plus ~20 bracelets and rings which he didn't drop during the fight.

I know he was mostly likely holding them all, and the crowns were made of bone and hair, but whatever.

P.S. What's with the lack of message? I'm 80% sure I didn't select outsider.

I have no idea what caused the message to not show, did you maybe press enter without realizing it or something?  I do that sometimes.  Also, the ridiculous amounts of ornaments on people is a sure sign they're a vampire.  Just remember, All vampires are pimps.  Also, your kill isn't as impressive because you used Elf bowhax.

My first kill in 34.01 was a vampire. I noticed he was flashing blue, and I saw the "accuse" option so I figured what the hell.
As per starting with Professional swordsman and an iron long sword, I immediately cut his right hand off, then his head. After drinking his blood it took me several more days to realize I had to drink human blood before I could officially become a vampire. I have not managed to become a vampire again since

Thecard, now that I think of it, that is most likely what happened. The game was taking too long to load so I thought I forgot to press enter. So I guess I pressed it twice. Also, I know it's not that impressive, since I and many of my dead adventurers know all too well the strength of arrows

Now, I'm sitting in the same place I was in the game when I killed Quistra, should I drink his blood and become a vampire, or go after the bandit that killed Queh, or both? The only thing that's stopping me from becoming a vampire is not knowing if you can die from blood-thirst, or if it will just impede my stats if I don't drink enough. What do you guys think?

Do you mind occasionally hunting down an animal to strangle and feed on? If not, then I say become a vampire, then go avenge your previous incarnation. Vampirism will reduce your speed to somewhere in the 1200s, though (I've heard that it may be part of "blending in").

My favorite hypothesis is the idea that vampire teeth actually increase in size dramatically, to the point where it physically slows them down.

I have no problem with that, I toy with the little animals for fun/training anyway. My speed is already less that 1200 so that's not a problem. Also, what are the benefits of being a vampire (besides being awesome)? I never looked them up. Anyway, I'll become one then go after that bandit.

Edit: Why can't I drink the bone carver's blood? I'm biting his (unconcious) throat after drinking a bunch of vampire blood, but I don't get any option of drinking of blood. What's the problem?

I'm pretty sure becoming a vampire freezes your physical attributes, so you should wait till your super[race]ly in strength, agility, toughness and endurance.

Welp, I dun goofed. When I bit the elf he woke up, I strangled him back to sleep, but apparently he had time to ring the town alarm. Everyone in town (including my companion) is after me. I'm pretty sure I'll die soon

Well, first thing to do is run to another Civ.  Also, the benefits are better attributes, if I remember right.  Also, I think the speed thing is probably a mix of the two, although giant fangs are kinda conspicuous, it's more awesome that way.

Oh geez, if that's true then I made a terrible mistake of becoming one

I think the fangs are a little too big... I can bite somebody in the head and pierce their skull... or the chest and tear apart their heart.

If that's true then great, since most of my teeth have been punched out by boogymen.

Well, this is what happened to me. I was just bored and started to walk around a capital and shouting on everyone that they are vampires. One confirmed and after one lucky hack to an arm:

Notice those announcement numbers. All that are crowns, rings, bracelets and other useless stuff. He must have a gigantic hand to hold it all plus a halbert (also I haven't noticed he dropped any bag).

P.S. Also my first vampire in adventure mode.

Yeah, I killed one, it was a blind cave fish woman, she was flashing blue, she talked openly about her human kills, but the biggest tip off was the very nice assortment of human, dwarf, goblin and elf hair amulets, rings and crowns she was wearing.  After cutting off one of her hands, I was afraid to continue.
