Best starting stats for peasant-level adventurer
« on: February 26, 2012, 03:49:43 pm »

I'm going to be playing a human peasant adventurer, for as long as I can until he/she dies.
So, what stats/skills give me the best advantage at the start?

you'll want at least some level of reading now that books and secrets are in the game.

Novice reading is good enough for all current purposes, and that's assuming that the peasant in question is expected to make it through a necro tower in the first place.

Personally, I'd go with defensive boosts, particularly things that can't be trained easily. Dodge would be wise to invest in, I wager, since even a wolf would probably be pretty scary as a peasant. Some agility for increased speed seems like a good idea, too.

Is it that rare?  I've alwasy used peasants, seems more epic when they do well.

I drop the useless stats (musicality, empathy, et al.) and beef strength agility and Toughness up, and usually give myself high in each.

Then it's usually, one point of reading, one point of whatever weapon I want to start with, and the rest goes to defense.  ((cross)bowmanship is good, it's currently so overpowered you need to use it, and it precludes the need to put points in shield.

Then find scare some birds and target practice (missiles shot up come back down whole)  when they crash they're usually in no shape to fight, at which point practice wrestling.  once you think you have what it takes to fight humans, sneak up, blast them with the bow untill they pass out, grab their weapon, and repeat.  Once the whole camp is a bunch of broken legged, weaponless targets, switch combat to close, break everything you can, then switch to strike and beef up your weapon skill.  You;d be amazed how quick you stats rise doing this.  Eventually you'll need to take someone on in a fair fight, they'll break your finger, and your inhumanly tough wrestler will faint dead away, because losing is fun.

There is no 'best' Setup.
Simply put, get used to that.

I killed a Deity and a Lord with a Peasant Outsider with a couple of dips in Striker.
How?
The Lord: Stabbed His Neck then repeatedly Stabbed the Body while He slept.
The Deity: Sneak up, Grab from Behind, Stab the Head.

In Combat, a completely untrained dude with an Axe can hack down five hardened Bandits.
Your Built aint gonna help You much.

It helps a bit, but not much. At all.

Most important stat is agility.  As a peasant you can get agility to high.  For skills, at least novice in swimming, observer, and reading.  Everything else you can train up.

Like Berserkenstein says, a lot of skills can be trained from scratch, except Swimming and Reading from what I know, Unless they're at least "Novice". So those two skills should be important to put a point in.

Depends on your preference. Try the made of glass build, make all of your physical stats INCREDIBLY WEAK :P

You can train Swimming from scratch as well. Just swim back and forth across any river, and make sure to get out of the water every time you get across.
