Dwarven witness protection program?
« on: February 26, 2012, 03:21:27 pm »

I had begun screening my migrants for vampires, since it seems like we get one every other damn season, and found a suspicious character, Ihhe Ramkalath -- or so he would have me believe. Dwarf Therapist tells me that his true identity is Ihhe Mengezar. This caught my eye, but notably, he did not have a long list of associations and friends/family. In fact, he had no friends, family, or acquaintances at all, just the one deity ("object of worship", actually), despite his trait of "making friends quickly" for seventy-nine years.

Suspicious enough for me to lock him up in the crypt with the other vampires... until he started to starve/dehydrate.

So he's clearly not a vampire, but I'm still on edge letting him roam free. What's he hiding?

What's he hiding?

Ihhe Mengezar has withdrawn from society...

Maybe he socialized only with his family members?  :P

Seriously though, relationship list only shows family members and in fortress friendships, not any world gen friendships if those exist.

Friends, sure, and though less common, I see dwarves without any family history listed sometimes. This doesn't explain the name change, though, which is my main curiosity.

He testified to the dwarven Supreme Court about the criminal activities of Urist McMobster, and has been in hiding for more than a dozen years under the protection of DWP.

"We're going to send you to a small outpost on the edge of the forests Urist, you'll do fine. We hear it's very safe. Just say you were a fisherdwarf or something."

Oh, yes, quite safe... reports of a poorly planned magma piston project and a mausoleum full of vampires are largely exaggerated.

It just dawned on me reading this that having criminals emigrate to the fortress trying to hide from justice is totally possible now. As are dwarves coming to your fortress to commit crimes.

I've had a couple of last name disagreements between DF and Therapist.  So far they've all been normal dwarves.  Apparently, Therapist isn't grabbing the names quite right, or something is going on.

It's the total lack of agreement between the two that normally flags the vampire.

Maybe he's a necromancer. Saw a post about on of them moving in and eventually his ghost brought down the fortress in the facepalm forum :p

Yes but they don't currently (as I understand it) flee from the fortress. They hang around and accept their punishment.

It would be fun wouldn't it?

Catten Mcfarmer has been missing for a week.

Urist Mcfarmer has been found dead; strangled!
Catten Mcfarmer has been missing for two weeks.
