Spearbreakers, my destination and destiny, sprawls before me. I stare at the raining blood, the countless corpses, and the hardened looks on even the children. Had I not lost Darklight, my blade, on my way here (damned keas), I could be more useful. Sadly, I cannot reveal my true name, merely an alias; LFTON. I'm sure they'll understand.
I walk towards the great bridge, and as I call my arrival to the fortress, the bridge lowers as if to devour me. I pray that devouring is not the way I die, lest I become one of the Black Queen's Reapers. A slightly apathetic-looking girl studies me, and upon sighting my empty sheath, pointss me in the direction of the manager's office, referring me to one 'Splint'. I head to the office, but not before tripping over a half-filled mug. I suspected poison, as it was the death of my trusted champion Catten Lolokcatten, but it was only some dwarven rum. The good stuff.
Upon reaching the office of Splint, I received the same treatment as I got from the dwarfette upstairs. He notes my sheath as well, and studies my cobalt gaze. Apparently pleased, he points me toward the barracks, informing me of my new superior; Colonel Fischer. Anxious to meet him, I set off, further towards the core.
When I arrived at the barracks, I met Col. Fischer, and my assumptions were allayed, as the Colonel was unmistakably female. She asked me what I could do, and handed me a pike. I felt the pike between my fingers; cold (definitely metal, probably unused), heavy (not adamantine, probably steel or iron), and perfectly balanced, truely a masterwork of weaponsmithing. I don't know much about the way of piking, but I managed to aquire a raised eyebrow and possibly the smallest of grins as I twisted, hacked, and stabbed with the pike as I would with Darklight. She returned to her steely gaze, and informed me of my new position; sergeant. She told me that training begins yesterday, and quite naturally I snapped to attention and went off to meet the rest of my squad.
I could get used to this, but naturally times will change from tense to panic. Like back in Angelbane, and the fortress of my dreams, Nightblade, when we were destroyed by our own laxness. I pray it does not come to this.
