Slabs Help
« on: February 26, 2012, 07:47:41 am »

Hi, I just started a new fortress on DF2012 and immediately got encountered with one of the things I haven't experienced in dwarf fortress, The possibility of losing a corpse and having to get a slab. The first thing that happened on the new fortress was that my hunter got dragged into a 14 Z levels long waterfall and gibbed into thousands of pieces down at the bottom. I need a slab to give him a funeral, But don't know how to use them. Help.

There are two steps: first you need to make blank slabs in the Mason's workshop. Then you need to write the memorial blurb on them in the Craftsdwarf's workshop. Uh, if the dead dwarf is listed as 'missing' instead of 'dead' then a dwarf has to go and visually confirm the gibbed body of the dead before a stonecrafter will write the memorial slab.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

He's missing, And a waterfall/river 14 Z levels down with alligators everywhere isn't really safe searching for him.
I guess I'll hope that he doesn't become an annoying ghost.

As soon as he does become a ghost you should be able to slab him to the netherhells.

Engravers engrave the slab, stonecrafters don't.

I think that after a week of being "missing" he will be listed as dead, but IDK.
