hey IT, what do you use to take the screenshots?  The last photo capture software gave me a trojan, Malwarebytes removed them though.  Can't do a proper post unless I get some screenshots!

On my windows I have a 'prt sc' (print screen) button on my keyboard, hit the key when you want to take a screenshot, open up MSPaint, and paste it in.

If you're using a mac, command+shift+3 will capture it as a jpeg and save it on your desktop.

wow, so i'm a woman. I have to change my post!

In the back of the wagon, Cloudy tuned her guitar. she struck a chord. "Perfect." she said. Then she started playing. People joined the song, and soon the Old Furnaces Anthem was audible for miles. Cloudy didn't sing. She just struck chord after chord. When the song was over, she instantly changed the tune to another, ancient song from a long forgotten era. Everyone still sang the Old Furnaces Anthem. She smiled wryly. Then she put her guitar away. The chorus began to die away. "Come on, Cloudy! Do the Old Furnaces again!" someone said. "No." Cloudy replied and jumped off the wagon. Then she walked up to the leader of the expedition, Pureheart. "How much farther?" she asked...

And now, Entry 2!
Cloudy sat and sulked on the scaffolding. She was troubled, and she needed comforting. There was a cat sitting nearby, giving her the Look. "Don't look at me like that." she said. The cat stood up, streched and jumped onto Cloudy's lap, twisting and turning until it found a suitable position to lie down. Cloudy smiled and started petting it. She felt better, but she still needed something else. Music. But she left her guitar in the wagon, how could she... Her train of thoughts was interrupted by the familliar sensation of a guitar's neck in her hand. "But how?" she asked, as if the instrument could answer. But the guitar did nothing, it just hummed a familliar tune. The cat lazily opened its eyes, and jumped away when it saw the strange instrument. For once, Cloudy didn't care about the cat. She just wanted to play. She put the guitar in the proper position, and started striking chords. She wasn't even aware when she started to sing.
We lit a fire many years ago
Between four walls of stone...
The guitar started emitting a strange blueish glow of satisfaction...

...And down in the bushes, an alligator got really angry.

May I be humied as Cassidy O'Reilly, a hunter? I'd prefer for him to be kept out of major entanglements with the infected, but I'd rather have Ryan sacrificed than lose two or more humans. Thanks guys! :)

I'd also consider taking a turn, but I'm not that great at Dwarf Fortress.

Wouldn't advise putting the trade depot up the side of the wall. Merchant pathing is a bit like soldier pathing - they won't stand on the exact spot, but stand around the designated area. For soldiers, this applies to 'Station' orders (so don't station them next to a wall - they will often wander outside the defences to stand on the other side). For merchants, in your case, it means they will stand outside the wall and get ripped to shreds. Move your trade depot inside, or thicken the wall a couple layers.

Good start so far, no real casualties yet :D
I guess the best course of action is to farm and forage.
I've designated in my game a 'scavenger' who's only job was to gather 'plants' and clear the tires/concrete etc. up. Wokrs pretty well.

My fort crumbled to vampire and weremole ducking at each other during a tantrum spiral and a locked out siege behind our walls.

Didn't expect to get chief military right away ;]

My suggestion for military - minicrossbows/baseball bats -> pistols/machetes :]

This looks good so far. :D I'm not planning on playing a turn but I would like to be humied. I think I'll take the child, just to make the inevitable demise all the more tragic.
Call the kid Alex Hill, and should he or she survive enough to become an adult, give his ass a gun and have him fighting Zeds as well.

You're both on the list :D

Good point, I'll expand the moat over, that should keep the traders from doing anything stupid.

*SPLAT*

“Not again.” I muttered as the pig slowly got up and vomited its way inside. Fortunately, its fat appears to protect it against lethal dama- “STOP VOMITTING ON MY FOOT YOU STUPID ANIMAL.” Oh god it’s everywhere!

-----

Autumn arrived silently, it was impossible to tell in this murk. But the calendar said so, so it must be true.

We completed the outer wall, and we’re going to build a pasture to cover up the small hole on the side.

I felt my gut wrench, as I stared at the gaping hole, they would be here soon.

-----

A pack of Dingos forced us to lock ourselves inside and halt our plans for the pasture. These things weren’t just any sort of Dingos, these things were huge! The size of a bear! And the personality of one too! Damn thing growled at our weaver and he ran inside like he was getting chased by hell itself. I was afraid it was going to bite off my head!

-----

One of the migrants came up to me today “Oye captain.” He bellowed “We ain’t got no food ‘round here. We’re all goin’ hungry.”

I twitched, thinking quickly “We have food, just not in the stockpiles, we can’t have people taking more food then they need now can we?” I said, fortunately, my reasoning stood and he nodded his head “I’ll order some of the food to be brought down to the storage this afternoon.”

I smiled and patted him on the shoulder “Don’t worry. We have plenty of food.”

-----

The well was built just in time for the rain, or at least I thought It was rain, it filled the pools up, sure, but it felt just as damp as ever. Hopefully we can get a drink now.

-----

Walled off the pasture and shoved the animals inside, that should keep them safe enough.

-----

I also took it upon myself to declare myself the Work Enforcer. I am very excited!

Not that anything really changed, but now I get a fancy room and if people don’t do what I say I can hit them now!

Testing my power, I saw empfan lying lazily at the dinner table, approaching him with my arms crossed, I slapped him across the face “Get back to work empfan! Those weapons aren’t going to forge themselves!” Ha! Surely he will work now! So much poweerrrrrrrrr!

He didn’t even seem to notice “Nope, I’m on break.” he muttered finishing off his drink “Now if you slap me one more time, I’ll turn you into a plate of armor.”

Recoiling I took a few steps back and pulled a chair in between us “Well, uh… okay… um… whenever you get around to it that would be optimal.”  he just smirked as I skittered off

The water was finally starting to trickle down into the reserve when the rains ceased. There was barely enough to dip your cup into!? How were we supposed to get water now!? I need to hit someone, Yeah! That’ll make me feel better! Looking over at Ellis, who was standing by the well, I huffed up as much air as I could and angrily approached him.

With a smile on his face he pulled out a bucket full of water and drank it in one long swig.

“How did you get that?” I asked him now confused

“Well boss,  I didn’t think th’re was enough room for this ol’ well. So I dug ’dem holes under it.” He pointed down the well as I peered over at the small puddle

His face twisted in nervousness “I was gonna dig some more, but ran into bedrock. Got kinda distracted and carved dem pictures in them.”

I don’t care what anyone says, that man is a genius.

-----

Finally! I was wondering where the rest of the crew went! Three more migrants, two farmers and a gem cutter. Well they’re haulers now, but regardless.

-----

Work on the road was about half way done, Ellis worked furiously to build the roads. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any bricks, so work was about as slow as ‘tryn’ta ride a horse to market backwards’ to quote my friend. We are also building some walls around it so the wagons don’t get confused on their way in.

-----

“Hey Ellis.” I said looking at the rough, but complete road. Ellis was bent over a large boulder, he was whacking it with a rough railroad spike and a bit of iron ore.

“There!” He said standing up and wiping sweat off his brow

“See? Now when thos’ some stupid bandits come, they’ll get scared off by this here trap!”

I looked at the rough carving in the ground, I gotta admit, it’s a good idea.

“Naw I’m gonna go down the road and carve a picture of us! So they know that friendly humans live here!”

It ended up being a single stickman with a smiley face waving his hand. Ellis said it was a picture of me, then went off to see the new horse foal that we just got.

I didn’t know I had such a wide head…

-----

Empfan came up to me with two magnificent weapons, a large iron axe, and an equally amazing splitting maul “Here’s those weapons you wanted.” He muttered showing them to me

“Beautiful!” I said admiring them “Get this axe to magikmw and that maul to Claude Turner over there.” His eyes narrowed and he stood there like a statue, a terrifying statue “Uh… ya’ know what?” I shook “I’ll give these to them myself.”

Both Claude and magikmw reveled in their new weapons Claude turned to magikmw “Hey buddy! I saw some capybaras by the gate outside! Wanna go test these babies out?”

“Hell yeah!” magikmw screamed as he hefted the axe on his shoulder

Claude raised his maul “All will scatter before my hammer! All zeds will cringe by my mighty sting!” This went on for a few minutes before they finally marched out the door

I tagged along, just to make sure that if that capybara got the best of them, we could close the bridge in time

*Spleltch*

OH GOD Claude caught up to the rodent first and mutated the poor thing! He drove the blunt end of the hammer through the animals heart!  As he  marched inside covered in more blood then when the cat splattered the ground, I just remember fainting on soft, cold, wet, soil.

-----

Rurik and GoodApollo finally went outside to recover the mush of the capybara.

GoodApollo was much farther ahead, and grabbed a hunk of the creature and started back, giblets and organs dribbling out all the way. When Good Apollo was a good twenty yards from the gate, Rurik had just gotten out to the mass of mush.

Suddenly the area ahead of Rurik began to shift. The mist and fog started to go black as shadows swept behind them.

“Hey look more migrants!” Cloudy McThomas said pointing towards the cloud

“No...” Dan McNeele muttered hefting his shovel over his shoulder

“…Those ain’t no migrants.”

GoodApollo was still twenty yards from the gate, hauling the remains of the capybara. Rurik, he was twenty yards from them! I cringed as a chill swept through the humid area.

I looked over at a small iron box with a large red button on it. Without hesitation I jumped off the wall, and slammed it with a clenched fist. Immediately the fortress came to life, alarms blared, people ran. Rurik took one look at the open-ceiling palisade and darted away from the moving mist.

“He might make it.” I muttered as the creatures shook about, as if awaking from a deep sleep “Maybe.” One leapt out of the fog “Please.”

Dear Urist: I, the overseer, appreciate your point of view about the danger that an unarmed goblin can represent at the other side of a fortification when you try to kill it with a ballista, but, as you know, you're not paid to think. And a mindless worker is a happy worker, so shut up and do your job.

Empfan's log:

ZEDS, FUCKING ZEDS! Those rotting mother fuckers are sitting right outside the gate.  Might be time to pull out my trusty Zombie Survival Guide and make myself a sidearm.  Best time we start making bullets and guns if we're going to deal with these things...

The Journal of Claude Turner

Killed a big-ol rodent today. Guys looked at me like I grew a second head when I took the bugger down. I mean, realy, the thing was like a rat, but the size of a large dog. Okay, so perhapes it would have ran when I drove the blunt end into its chest and twisted it, and perhapes the little dance I did afterwords was a bit much, but it's dead. Oh well, Ellis gave me a thumbs up after the fact anyway. Not sure if I should be scared or mortified. Probably both. Perhapes I should mull over it later when I go greet the migrants ghouls ghasts zombies outside with a few blows with the new splitter I got.

Dan Mcneele grabs Ellis by the shoulder and hands him his prized rifle.

"Go kill'em. Oh, and if you lose or break her...I'll slit your throat, cut off your limbs, set you on fire, tear out your intestines, and strangle you with them!

Got it?"

I'd like to be humied as Pan. Male farmer caste Farmer who escaped to the Privations from his farm with a trusty scythe. If you should feel the need to draft him, he prefers scythes. (In my Corrosion games, I tend to have all the non full time military carry weapons in case I need to quickly draft them or they get ambushed by a lone undead.)

If none are available after a long while (don't just turn any random unskilled peasant into a farmer for this sake - seeds are precious here in Corrosion) then just make him a melee soldier with a scythe.
