so... i think those downward arrows that blinked on my dwarfs in my last fortress express extreme things like starvation or (i saw that one in my recent "flood a field" experiment) drowning.

Is there a list somewere?

Yes there is on the wiki (www.dwarffortresswiki.net) search for status icons or something like that. You might have to look on the archived wiki I don't know if the new version has it or not.

In short, a down blue arrow = thirty, down brown arrow = hungry, down grey arrow = sleepy and down red arrow means unhappy (or worse).

Some status effects will also show up in their "wound" list, supposedly - select the dwarf with v and hit w for wounds.
