To kill a deity
« on: February 25, 2012, 02:22:39 pm »

So I decided to make a Smaller world with very high beasts and savagery. There is only one human civ and its leader is a Deity/Clown.
Either way i'm hellbent on killing it, but with no evil biomes or vampires to help my adventurer take him down. There is a single necromancer tower on the southernmost end of the continent, but my latest adventurer was killed in a loyalty cascade on the way when I got ambushed by bandits and had 19 followers. I don't want to try and gen a new world since there may not be a deity to kill in it :/ (Or how common are they?) Any ideas on how I can kill him?

300 human/elf/dwarf/goblin/kobold bodies 20 random animal/fish/bird bodies and 3 dragon bodies all in one backpack. fun stuff.

The best way is to turn his followers on him. Accuse him of being a night creature and if he admits it his whole clergy will usually turn on him (unless they are night creatures as well). Otherwise sharpen some rocks/buy a bow and toss them at/shoot him, since he will most likely have a breath attack and theres usually no way to avoid it in such a closed in building.

Turns out he is a bona-fide deity. accusing him did nothing.

It's a clown, there are no Gods in DF besides the ones that laugh at your demise.

Accusing disguised clowns does nothing because clowns aren't creatures of the night.

I don't care, I just want to kill it and damn the consequences!

(Seems like there is a massive group of elite kobolds closely guarding the area around the tower, they've killed me three times now.)

There ARE Gods, but they don't appear in physical form and are more of a world gen variable able to curse things than anything else.

There is one trick you can use to cause loyalty cascade against it: (note that this could be fixed, this happened in old version)

1) Attack demon with adventurers so that demon becomes hostile to civ of the adventurer(by becoming "Enemy" of it, so you pretty much have to use adventurer from another civ)

2) Come to the demon with another adventurer from same civ. If you did it correctly, demon will attack you first. NOTE: DON'T attack the demon before it attacks you or else soldiers will turn hostile agaisnt you. If you did it right, demon will stop being lawgi- Oh wait, now they are gods... Anyway, not sure if this trick works, but yeah, don't shoot the demon first  :P

I tried killing a diety once. A skinless skink clown that fooled the largest city into worshipping it. When I looked up its clothing, it had nothing but elf bone and teeth accessories.

Before attacking and condemning myself to die there, I went to recruit some brethren. One axedwarf and, as I traveled to the top of the keep, I found a lone elven archer in the very corner. Hiding, waiting till that dirty skink bastard went up there to massacre him. I honestly felt bad for the elf so I receuited him and with my two brothers I attacked the skink.

On my first strike I lodged my iron spear into its left leg sending the guy crashing to the floor. As the thing was wriggling on the floor, I tried bashing its skull in. I was sad to see my brave adventurer miss and get counter-bitten in the spear-arm with poisonous venom. As I layed there succumbing to the necrosis, I watched as the skink god crawled towards my axe brother and fractured all of his bones before the dwarf bled to death. Then, with a few dozen arrows lodged in his upper body, the thing crawled to the archer and in one swift strike, bit the poor elf's head fracturing it and killing him.

After that my adventurer's brain rotted away. After a bit of training I plan to return to finish the job.

But what if you're an Elf? Aint got no Gods.

Since they never build any temples (or any buildings for that matter) they never have any world gen interaction with them and I'm guessing that's the basis of the elfish atheism.

Which I guess presents a sortof chicken and egg problem. Did the Gods come first.... or the temples?
