I just learned GMT doesn't stand for general mountain time for the rest of the world, only in america?
by GMT i meant general mountain time, and not Greenwich Mean Time which is the official meaning of GMT

so I guess I'm UTC, or Mountain Time, GMT-7 {(GMT) minus 7 hrs.}
one hour ahead of Pacific Time and one hour behind Central Time, two behind eastern.
I just learned GMT stands for General Mountain Time in America.

GMT's Greenwich Meridian Time, AKA, the one everything else is measured from.

Yeah, the Greenwich Meridian is the line upon which GMT is measured.

GMT here as well.

So that's 3 GMTs, 1 CET (GMT +2 or 3?), 1 Mountain Time and 1 Central Time. And I'm in Eastern (GMT-5).

Obviously the solution here is to reshape Earth as a toroidal ringworld so that we are all on the same timezone. That, or I could do later broadcasts (so that the Europeans get in the morning and the Americans get it late but not crazy late). Downside is, it'll be crazy late for me.

Might take to doing the double-feature again, so Americans can grab the early one and Europeans can watch the later one.

Okay, I will NOT be doing one this Friday night, because my son's 2nd birthday party is on Saturday and I need to actually get sleep beforehand. But the weekend after that looks like a winner. SO....I present the following double-feature options, and I'll put a poll up on the OP for people to vote between now and then:

Night of a Million Zillion Ninjas (ninja movies)
Shinobi: Heart Under Blade (Japan, 2005)
Duel to the Death (Hong Kong, 1983)

One Story, Three Storytellers (multiple POV/untrustworthy narrators)
Rashomon (Japan, 1950)
Hero (China, 2002)

Will The Real Wong Fei Hung Please Stand Up? (two very different takes on the legendary Wong Fei Hung)
Drunken Master (Hong Kong, 1978)
Once Upon A Time In China (Hong Kong, 1991)

Dangerous Liasons (supernatural love stories not involving sparkly vampires)
Green Snake (Hong Kong, 1993)
Painted Skin (Hong Kong/China, 2008)

Kung Fu Sutra: Wuxia as Religious Parable (epic wuxia films with Buddhist themes)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (China/Hong Kong/Taiwan/US, 2000)
Touch of Zen (Taiwan, 1971)

CET'S GMT+1/2 depending on DST.

Also throwing in a vote for Rashomon for storytelling shenanigans.

Athens/Jerusalem/Tallinn/wherever else time. I'm almost always free on any time from 5-20 on weekdays, any time on a Saturday, Sundays tend to randomly flux.

Okay, so it's looking like Rashomon and Hero will be on the slate for Friday night. Tentative start time will be 11pm EST (0400 Saturday morning GMT):

11pm-12:30am: Rashomon
12:30-12:40: Intermission
12:40-2am: Hero

It helps that both of these movies are pretty short (88min. for Rashomon, 99min. for Hero). This should make for not-too-late viewing for Americans (especially West Coasters) and not-too-horribly-early viewing for Europeans (especially for Hero)...it's like Saturday morning cartoons only with swords and blood!  ;D

Things to note:
Both movies utilize a very similar narrative structure: Most of the "present-day" is simple dialogue scenes connecting seperate "flashbacks" which are the same story told from different POVs. (Zhang Yimou has acknowledged Rashomon as an influence in writing and directing Hero).

One big contrast/comparison is the use of lighting. Kurosawa deliberately shot Rashomon in black and white, to go along with his theme of the truth of the story lying somewhere in a "grey area" in between the three tellings. Hero, by contrast, is shot in vivid color, with each character being essentially color-coded (green for Long Sky, red for Flying Snow, black for the Qin army and King, etc.)

Rashomon was filmed on an extremely tight budget, and as a result it's a minimalist film. There are only 3 settings in the entire film: the city gate (from whence the film takes its name), the temple courtyard and the woods, and only 8 characters. Hero, on the other hand, had one of the largest budgets of a mainland Chinese film ever at that point (about 250 million yuan) and a cast and crew of hundreds, with lush location shots and meticulously constructed sets.

Get with the program, Britain! We switched to DST this past weekend.  :P

Okay, so the Euro crowd will most likely not be up and around for Rashomon. I really can't push it any further forward, because I actually do have to get up and function somewhat the next day.

Unless we stay up, which I plan to. I can sleep through Saturday. Also, we change to GMT on the 25th.
