RL Booze that reminds you of DF
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:59:30 pm »

So today I picked up a few craft beers. Among these is a 13 dollar beauty named Magma. In addition, my craft brew store serves a mead that has habanero and chili in it, made in Africa. It is awesome.

So what dwarfy booze have you come across.

Imagine the will it took to create a fortress like this. And what have you elves built? Nothing. You can only loot and break. You're not dwarves!! You're just termites at Versailles.

It's not that I don't suffer, it's that I know the unimportance of suffering, I know that pain is to be fought and thrown aside, not to be accepted as part of one's soul and as a permanent scar across one's view of existence.

How long will it be before someone mentions Sink The Bismark and Tactical Nuclear Penguin...

Oh crap, I just did.

They're significantly Dwavren beers. >:)

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
Link for full quote. 'tis mighty funny.

Delirium Tremens comes to mind.  It even has an elephant on the bottle.

Also Skull Splitter, for obvious reasons.

I am going to try Mead because of Dwarf Fortress.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

For those who can't read this language, it means "The end of the world".

Agreed. Unibroue is an awesome company.

I've been meaning to buy skull splitter for like.....the past year. Think I'll nab it next batch.

A note to Mead buyers: make sure it's actual mead. Lots of stuff in stores that call themselves Meade are just white white with honey mixed in. Pretty much your only safe bet is an actual craft brew store.

Anything described here would explain rather a lot about dwarven society and behaviour.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Alien brain hemorrhage cocktail.

It's what would happen if you could make booze out of Forgotten Beasts.

I'm a fan of Stone, and either Arrogant Bastard or Vertical Epic probably fits the bill.

Also, my fav brewery is probably Rogue (never had a beer from them that I didn't really, really like). And Dead Guy Ale is a relatively dwarfy name (also their most famous). Also, Voodoo Bacon seems to fit .34 pretty well, what with the rampant reanimation of various animal parts.

Finally, that super expensive beer that comes served in a small mammal (here: http://www.asylum.com/2010/07/22/its-the-worlds-strongest-most-expensive-beer-inside-a-squi/) is apparently called "The End of History." I don't know if dwarfs would spend so much on alcohol, but on the other hand they seem to have a pretty odd conception of what things cost (thus the meals made of minced cow tallow and wine that cost thousands of dwarf money).

You know, I'm surprised that nobody has made a drink inspired by Dwarf Fortress.
