Suspected Vampire... not a vampire?
« on: February 23, 2012, 01:31:20 pm »

Hello there, it seems in my current fortress that there appears to be a few vampires lurking about. There are all the signs there that they are vampires, but they haven't struck yet and killed anyone! What sort of sorcery is this? and is there some way that I can accuse them without them killing anyone yet?

Even once they kill someone i'm pretty suer yo can only accuse them of murder, which gives like 200 fast days attached to a chain. If you're sure they're vampires, it's better to just kill them and/or set them apart for military use.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

Just because a dwarf has killed vast numbers of giant animals and is covered in trophies doesn't mean they're a vampire.  You might just have two historical badasses on your hands.

Yup, vampires have tons of SENTIENT/SAPIENT races, such as human or dwarf jewelry.

A vampire would hide that kill list. You've just got a Urist McHammerbadass on your hands. Or a vampire hiding in plain sight.

Someone who's gone to "Hunt greats beasts in x" or whatever it says in world gen. Or in this case, 2 of them.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

You can't accuse them unless someone gets killed, and if you could then you'd be accusing two innocent dwarves. Before arriving at your fort, those two were hunters, not vampires. They made a living out of killing cute little bunnies and stuff, which is a long way off sucking the blood out of other dwarves.

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

I don't know, I think the most recent changes stopped the human/dwarf/elf jewelry. They generally have more mundane jewelry now so you won't know for certain if they are just a badass or a vamp. Most likely a vamp, but you don't want to kill a historical badass imo. I got multiple vampires with that sort of jewelry and kill record in my last fort. As well as a person who wasn't a vampire with the same thing. They are clever(ish) now. They still kill in plain sight though. In fact, my idiot vampires seemed to prefer to kill in plain sight. And they would accuse one another instead of covering for each other!

Edit: I am going off of what I think the jewelry is that they have on, I don't get the jewelry pics at all.

Note, however, that such people are, in my experience, vastly and disproportionately more likely to be vampires or werewolves.

My first fort of the update has a couple that match that kind of description, lots of kills, lots of social and military skills. None of the kills are humanoids though and not had a single loss to vampires yet. I imagine they went on a really badass honeymoon or something TBH.

My vampires are never historical badasses, they're always boring guys who have been kicked out of tons of civilizations.

That's been my experience too.

Have to to see "Mr T" show up. He's shown up on the forum with deadly bone bracelets, but I have yet to get one.

Hmm, i guess they are just badasses then! The 1st suspected vampire has 4 children, can vampires even have children? And she was only a former member of two other civilizations.

No, they cannot have children. Vampires are sterile.
