Nah. All of the spears are ++ or common. And all upright spears trap have only 1 training spear.
I have been ninja'd.
Maybe toady changed something on how traps work in this release.

True dwarves use serrated disks in their danger rooms. Sure, they can be made of the bluntest material you can find, but the fact remains that spears are for... elves.

Is the impaling message just a consequence of dying by spike, or did the dwarf get knocked unconscious and then fall and impale himself?  Or in other words, to creatures have to fall at least a z level to impale themselves, or is just falling over good enough?  Would a web trap over a row of deployed spikes be extra effective?

I believe he is referring to the mod pack of that name, in which Danger Rooms have been made... inadvisable.

Not really to all of that; Creatures must fall from a z-level above (but im not sure of how many) to be auto-impaled by a spear. Being stabbed in the brain, though, is what killed these dwarves. They became impaled after death because that's what upright spear/spike traps do; they impale anything that dies on them.

I welcome this change to the danger room, time to try the military the proper with broken spines from spars!  (hammerdorfs tends to fracture stuff, a lot ><)
