Put the meat in the moat and make a meat moat?

Or..... drain the moat and then add meat? Make it a miasma moat!? Would that work at all? Like, make siegers that come running along the moat-side start to throw up and stuff from the smell of decaying meat-product.

Probably wouldn't work... I worked in the meat dept. of a local supermarket and the meat barrels (containing meats in various stages of rottenness) didn't really bother me too much. Am I not dwarfy enough to be disturbed by that miasma?

Oh, obligatory...This is a pretty awesome thread I like it very much, I get the Title's feeling everythyme I start up this game right now since I keep having to restart due to some problem I see with my designs and overall not really knowing wtf is making my dorfs do such stupid things. IE-> NOT WHAT I TELL THEM TO DO!!!

Sadly, those are all prepared meats from butchering EVERY ANIMAL I COULD CATCH and building about 10 butcher workshops (*checks* 9 on the surface, one under). So they're delicious, but not like to cause miasma. Also, I need to figure out what to do with my stacks of hundreds of dragon meat. I have 3 extra kitchens set up and it's taking forEVER to clear this shit out still. Anyway, I'm leavin' rewatchin' of Avatar: The Last Airbender rolling while I'm going to run myself some dorfs.

As-is, the moat can't be emptied because it's running through the brook.

THIS COULD NOT POSSIBLY RESULT IN FUN LATER. NOTHING WILL ENTER MY FORT THROUGH THE BROOK/MOAT AND BREAK INTO THE WATER SUPPLY.

Edit - Guys, we have a problem: I'm safe.

The fort is walled and protected by skilled marksdwarves who fire from a tower. I have a fair amount of armor - mostly leather and what metals I can buy - and my primary issue so far is running out of places to put shit.

I need less safety and more Fun. Recommendations?

Remember that it ought to be a 1z well. Do contaminants (besides the vague "muddyness" and "saltiness") get picked up by wells? I thought they didn't...

I don't feel like doing a vampire fort, so he's probably going to end up in my special Anti-Dragon Taskforce, by which I mean a squad of vampires who make the dragon ignite things other than my two squads of crossbowdorfs.

Only one way to find out...

and by that I mean turning a bunch of your useless peasants into useful vampire test subjects.

If you find a way to turn dorfs into vampires easily and mass-reproducibly, I will make a fort in your honor.

That's easy, just make a danger room with a cistern below and floor grates. Assign your dwarf to a squad with no armor, have him go in, he'll get poked a bit in the danger room, let the blood mix with the water and build a well. Then assign the dwarves you want vamped to burrow in that area and you have your vampire army.
