Wow, uh, I've started hemorrhaging dwarves to Ghost Vampire bloodsucking. Time to carve some slabs up because I am NOT opening that cavern up.
Any way to figure out what the skills and/or labors of the two dorfs I lost were?

SON OF A BITCH
I lost ANOTHER of my starting 7, my fucking Broker, to ANOTHER unannounced Ghost Vampire.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy there's a distinct possibility that my fort has just been rendered unworkable by this because I can't make a memorial for this chucklefuck vampghost.
Saving and quitting for now. Tomorrow, backing up save and doing an expedition to retrieve his body.

Assuming I have to fight at least one Forgotten Beast (possibly two?) how hard should I expect this to be?

I think I mentioned this in your other thread, but metals are pretty feast/famine nowadays. You usually only have a few metals, but you usually have those in amounts undreamed of in 40d. This does mean you usually find them pretty fast, so if you haven't hit iron yet you probably aren't going to. On the plus side, silver warhammers and bolts are both quite powerful, so you can make something of a military.

Forgotten beasts are very random. Some of them will be made of steam and die to a random punch from a panicked gatherer, others are made of gemstone or metal and are basically indestructible to anything but a cave-in. TBH I don't know about using a military on them much since I usually kill them with various engineering traps. Most of those are cave-in traps or spikes linked to a repeater. Also be aware that their blood, dust and other body parts can carry syndromes ranging from harmless to instantly deadly. You can mitigate that by making baths for your dwarves but it can be pretty destructive.

My advice:

Wait until both forgotten beasts seem to settle into one location, more-or-less.  Then cave-in a section of ceiling on top of them.  If you need to cave in half the cavern, so be it, but you can often nail them with a precision strike if they settle into place.  Unless one of them flies, then you might have trouble.

You stand a fair chance of a military wipe if the beasts have bad syndromes or are tough to kill or do a lot of damage.  If they are made of snow, maybe not.  But a cave-in will kill anything.  Clear the forgotten beasts from above before sending an expedition to observe the bodies.

OR

Set up some cage traps and a draw bridge air-lock, burrow one dwarf into the airlock, cycle it, send him on a terrible suicide mission for the vampire remains.  Hope he gets there before the beasts get him, he'll at least be a less violent ghost initially.

It helps if you can find the body on your own, so you can just put the dwarf in a squad and order him to it.

Found the body. Tunneled in from below, grabbed it and walled it in with a skill-light dorf.

Body is obtained. Interring it shortly.

Major Choice junction: Do I dig for Fun to make up for my lack of iron, since my silver covers the bludgeoning weapons?

Edit: This may not matter shortly. Dragon.

Edit: Dragon down. Lost a recent vampire immigrant in the fight.

What a shame.

What. A. Shame.

Cracking open the Circus now.

Edit: Circus opened for the first time. Promptly walled it back in, dug out the rest of what I could from the current Pillar of Fun. I'd say "Figuring out what to do with 115 units of Fun" but I know exactly what I'm doing.

Is there a way to designate a stockpile of only Finished Foods (of any type)?

Yep. When in the most specific part of the food-stockpile goods-list, press u. It's an entirely different good from platn, drink, meat etc.

Huh. I toyed with that but it seemed like it was only doing the meals containing stuff listed from my experimentation. I'll test that out though.

Recent events of note...

Dragon spawned on what appears to be a set of traders that have accumulated over the years, standing invincibly at the edge of the map:

They got toasted and then the dragon ran at me.

My crossbow fortification tower did its thing.

Life was good. No casualties.

Then, caravan:

Wondering how big my next migrant wave will be even with my derpface mayor banning the export of Scepters CONSTANTLY.

That would be a good idea, except for one thing. One big problem.
