OK, I have to reload the save.
There was a bit of a problem regarding flashfreezing, a ballistae, and a barrel of dwarven ale. Gonna fix it up.

tldr; version: nobody cares. For organ purposes, we have stem cells; for reproduction purposes, we have easier ways. Cloning is pretty much irrelevant to the goals of biotech, and combined with ethical issues have got it pretty much ignored.

It's one of those technologies which is certainly being developed somewhere, if only for how useful it could be for espionage, or body doubles, or countless other applications.

It isn't useful for any of those things. Hence, almost no research.

of course, in a world where the aging process could be speeded up, or slowed down :P.

... probably won't have anything to do with cloning tech :-\

We mostly just don't have much use for it anymore. I mean, maybe later or somethin' but apparently some degree of cellular regeneration or whatev' is easier to figure out than body clones and brain transplants, so... yeah.

Cloning tech is actually progressing swimmingly, because there are other applications for it, such as turning mice into you so that multiple copies of you can be made to die of cancer (think I'm kidding? I'm not.)

There are also species revival projects.

The problem is most cloning research is merged with DNA research, so it's hard to know what you are looking at.

Sources? And by you, do you mean cells or something with a brain?

They take the cancer and implant it into mice, encourage it to grow. Providing sources isn't practical on a phone that doen't allow copy paste, which is all I have. Your google keywords are mice cancer transplant.

You are looking for information on the "transplantation mouse models"

I believe this is the source of the "Eek! A Penis!" southpark eposode. It seems lame in comparison to growing an entire sheep, but that doesn't mean it's unrelated research, or that cloning is worthless.

Organ growth is a holy grail of cloning. Trust me, if you're a bloke that's lost his genitals in a freak smelting accident, you'd be willing to pay a million dollars for your best friend back.

On a more serious note though, check out the latest "magic bullet" drugs created by monoclonal antibodies.

We're progressing fairly well on those. (Besides, each cell in your body can be stimulated to grow into each other cell. That's what stem cells are for).

Currently we're working on printing organs. (Makes cloning easier, as you don't have to clone an entire body each time, just the relative cells).

There was also some NASA research going on on cloning meat/fish, allowing for rare species to be eaten and making farming more energy efficient.

I wonder if we'd allow some domestic species (cows, sheep, etc) to just go extinct if we learned how to grow their tissues independently.  There'd be little reason to question the ethics of it.  I imagine it could be made much more efficient than factory farming.  It would reduce a ton of strain on the environment.

Anyway, I've dreamed since like age 10 of designing my own genetically engineered pet.
