There was also the plan to place conduction stripes into the asphalt. Turning the entire highway into a giant conduction furnace. Every so often they drive a magnet across it, heating it and melting the asphalt, sealing all the cracks.

Flying cars are dumb. Helicopters are only even cool because they are rare. I already have a loud enough drive to work, I don't need a constant sky rumble threatening to blast out my eardrums, thanks.

I can build a flying car. It's not hard. The problem, as explained elsewhere here, is energy costs. A hummer would be like a Prius in efficiency by comparison.

Just strap some retractable vtol turbines on it and build it out of super-light materials, and poof, you got the back to the future car.

Helicopters are, though my Huey-flying Vietnam-veteran grandfather would have me shot for saying it, extremely hazardous beyond any measure of sanity. I don't know what was going through people's heads when they were invented. Most helicopters rely upon a single nut that connects the rotor to the mast in order to stay airborne, appropriately called the Jesus Nut, since if it comes off only he can save your pathetic life as you plummet out of the sky in your metal coffin at 100 MPH.

How often does that happen?

Almost never, as I understand it. It isn't about the frequency, though. It is the severity of the odds of death, and the fact that the whole design has a keystone component with no possible redundancy.

Be happy you haven't seen the attempts at personal helicopters. I don't know whose idea it was to put the blades on the bottom of those things. Not only is it top heavy, but it also proves problematic while getting off.

Isnt all Death really sever?

And if its almost never happens, then the odds are seemingly very small.

This is dorky but... Like a very small but still very present reason I joined the US Navy was because if there was one group that was going to build war fighting, spacefaring, massive super frigates those are the guys to do it. In the next 100 years maybe... But still.

Things that are infrequent have a low chance of occurring, so the odds of death are not severe at all. You seem to be contradicting yourself.

If it happens the odds of death are very severe, as opposed to the odds of not dying if it happens.

What set of circumstances where the prop of a helicopter fails is there a good chance of not death?

He was talking about the odds of death, but I thought he was talking about the odds of the nut coming off. So the answer would be “none”, but no one said that there were any.

So, we've established that the bolt almost never comes loose, which makes the chance of death low from it. And any circumstances where the prop falls off, also means sever death too. I'm still lost. ;.;
