I'm guessing shadowrun? I've always wanted to play, even bought a rulebook, but couldn't find anyone to play with :'(.

Amber Diceless

I also won bids for first rank in both Warfare and Endurance in a campaign of a dozen or so people.  It was awesome.

A bit of a necro, as there's some interesting stuff on the autonomous cars thing.
http://www.trl.co.uk/trl-news-hub/transport-news/latest-transport-news/all-cars-to-be-fitted-with-autonomous-emergency-braking_801418076.htm
By the end of next year, commercial vehicles in Europe will be required to have automated emergency breaking, with strong encouragement for it to be adapted among the general public.
Quote
A study into the technology carried out by the European Commission shows that road traffic accidents could be cut by 27 per cent.

This could mean that 8,000 lives are saved each year and between £3.9 billion and £6.3 billion.

No wonder it's being adapted so quickly in legislation; 27% is a pretty damn big number. Though, granted, those are mostly in the low-speed collision group if I'm understanding how these systems work correctly.

That's pretty awesome, but the technophobes will simply cry, "Da masheenz is takin' away our freedum!"

A few months ago Nevada started issuing licenses for autonomous vehicles.
That's pretty awesome, but the technophobes will simply cry, "Da masheenz is takin' away our freedum!"
They probably aren't going to complain for a while, since for right now the cars are individually self driven instead of being part of a highway network.

I'd buy an autonomous car. I hate driving. This is a much better way to travel.

Maybe the elderly will finally give up their licenses.

And those like myself, who are terrible drivers.

And everyone else, who are all terrible drivers but don't realize it. :P

We should start an organization: "Terrible Drivers for the Taking Away of Licenses of Terrible Drivers"

Just needs a spiffier acronym.

The elderly are statically very good drivers.

The least safe drivers, are 16-24 years old. This shouldnt be that shocking.

People are allowed on the road long before they're actually competent at it. All the more reason for absurdly difficult driving tests; everyone else can take the bus.

I've worked with robots.  I don't trust them to drive cars yet.  I think we're pretty close... but there is just so much that can go wrong while driving that I'm a bit nervous about the idea of a computer system controlling a car just yet.

Although once they do get to the point where they've demonstrated their safety I'd love to have one.  I hate driving too.  Forget this 90 minute commute, I'll just sleep while the car drives to where it needs to go.

Yeah, that's basically my idea. Never accepting technology is bad, but so is assuming the new technology will absolutely never ever go wrong ever. :P
