Dwarven Suicide?
« on: February 22, 2012, 06:02:20 pm »

So my beautiful, 60+ fort was reduced to a mere five dwarves huddling in a sealed-off dining hall, following invasion by demonic forces. Everyone was understandably, rather miserable, particularly the legendary miner who had been with the fort since day one, although he wasn't tantruming yet. Owing to his doubtlessly short-lived lucidity, I had him tunnel a way to the booze and food stockpiles for the remainder of my dwarves, losing one child in the process (those fiends!). Flash forward about a day, and the miner is mysteriously dead. Checking his thougths via one of the other dwarves reveals that his upper body is apparently gone, even though nothing could have possibly touched him.

I am thus left with two questions: 1. How could my miner have possibly died? Is it the work of some demonic syndrome, or does the newest version include dwarven suicide?
and 2. What should I do with the remaining dwarves, a trader, a carpenter, and a child?

Oh, nevermind. It turns out it was a vampire ("Urist McEeyore was found, completely drained of blood")... which is awesome! I'm 99% sure it's the Trader... hm... how much stronger are vampires than their regular kin?

"His upper body is missing" always denotes "dead".  The UB is the actual body, the head and lower body and everything else is extra.  That's why husks can survive with no head and no organs, they still have an upper body.  As for the specific cause of death, you'd have to figure that out yourself.

You have Fun with the rest, of course.

Dwarfs struck with melancholy occasionally commit suicide, but they seem content with just starving themselves to death nowadays.
