-snip- Anybody up to making a "here's what to watch out for" list for me? -snip-
Here's the stuff i've fixed myself because it bothered me:
- Removed clothing (added [ARMORLEVEL:1] to all clothing items) to remove clutter and improve fps (clothing items still exist, but nobody claims or wears them without you telling them to via military uniform)
- Added custom reactions for milling and brewing specific plants (see
this thread)
- Removed [MOUNT] or [MOUNT_EXOTIC] tag from all [FLIER] creatures because flyer pathfinding is borked
- Removed [MOUNT] or [MOUNT_EXOTIC] tag from any creature that doesn't [LIKES_FIGHTING] or isn't a [LARGE_PREDATOR] to avoid mounted invaders indefinitely scattering instead of engaging because their mount is scared of fighting
That's all i can really think of right now
-snip- [WARNING: OPINION INCOMING] the military system that is in place right now is a complete and utter clusterfuck, it is in desperate need of revision, and yes, bugs are still present. As opposed to being unable to spar, your dwarves now have an extremely low rate of skill-gain; even if they train the whole year, they'll barely improve. I find, and am often told so, that having them go on live hunts is preferable, but what with the recent changes to certain environments (see: Terrifying), having your dwarves leave the fortress at all could prove utterly fatal. Concerning military, I think that you're probably much better off in an earlier version of the game before everything was made convoluted. -snip-
This is not directed at you personally, and i realise the above is indeed your opinion, however, i have seen similar statements made one too many times and i would just like to say, from someone who relies 100%
only on military and plays with Fortress Defense, Orcs, and mods humans and elves to be automatically hostile and active in all seasons...
The military screen is a lot like DF itself; utterly impenetrable on the surface, but once you get used to its quirks it's incredibly powerful and a lot more intuitive than it looks. The wiki explains it pretty well, actually.
Failing the wiki, there is a boatload of information on this very forum. Much of it written by me, lol.
Some examples.
