Well, *I* mind, in the sense that I like it when we move quickly from week to week, because then I'm fitting more BB into my life. :-) Cursed time zones, making everything tricky!

Pies and I aren't scheduled until Thursday, so it's no big loss. As long as things are moving forward.

In other news, I'm glad to see that AlStar's RR drain strategy worked better against the Vampires than it did against me :P

Brunch's Big Bads 0 - 1 Monk's Marauders

Humans won the toss and elected to kick, in an effort to meet the Orc offensive at full strength. The game started with a riot that helped the stall tactics, and the first play of the game involved Stonerot the Troll knocking himself and the Ogre down with the ball still on the pitch. The Orcs called in their wizard to knock over the humans that could threaten the ballcarrier, so the humans played conservatively, settling in for a grind. The Big Bads failed to pierce the human line in the first half, and only MNG'd a lineman and KO'd another lineman and a Blitzer.

The Marauders lined up for the second half in full quick-score mode, which proved somewhat embarrassing when the Big Bads got a Blitz off. One side of the pitch was locked down, but Tuffgang the goblin tried and failed to sneak through the other side, leaving that route open. The Catcher ran deep, the orc covering him failed to stay standing.... and Stonerot the Troll intercepted the pass at the line of Scrimmage. Too many orcs were tied up to properly cage him, however, and the ball retrieval specialist wrestled him down, letting the original pass and catch plan proceed as expected.

With 5 turns to play and the humans at full strength, the orcs didn't have much chance at that point, particularly lacking their dearly departed Thrower. They cleared out the center of the field, but Stonerot was too stupid to throw his teammate. After another stupidity failure, the orcs ran an impromptu cage down the weak side of the field, but the mobile humans got in front of it and squished it toward the sideline. Tuffgang squirmed free and ran back to Stonerot, who was still too stupid to pick him up.  With Stonerot still too stupid the turn after that, the goblin threw up his hands and got ready to run it in himself, sprinting down the opposite sideline. The wizard only knocked down one of the two humans guarding that side, however, and the humans knocked the ball loose and knocked Tuffgang (the only player in scoring position) down to the turf.

I think that's the first time I've ever beaten Pies (I think I'm 1-2-3 against her) so that's exciting. Nobody got seriously hurt, so that's more exciting. I don't think anyone leveled up though- random lineman caught MVP for me, while Stonerot caught it for the Orcs. I've got a playoff berth locked up, and I don't think I can fall lower than the #3 seed, so I'll probably get to face Alstar. That fourth seed is wide open though, so that's an interesting race to watch.

All I have to do now is be paranoid about my luck, as once again I hardly dipped into my rerolls despite some risky blocks and a lot of action from the new Ogre, while Pies couldn't get any love from the dice, whether it was dodges or GFIs or just 2D blocks not going her way. The only thing that slowed me down for a moment was that Troll interception, and I still had enough bodies in the area it wasn't a real threat. Karma is going to come back to bite me, I can just feel it.

You can fall as low as 4th, if Jartol wins his remaining games and you don't win again. I think you have tie break over him, if you do win vs ndkid next week... but tie break is super arcane, so maybe not.

Also, match validated!

Bay12 Breakers wins 3-1 vs Manner Pylons!

The rats used their 80k gold on a potion that did nothing.

The rats elect to kick, and the DR quickly pancakes the rat ogre... "so this is how it's gonna be" remarks the rat coach.

The game is pretty even in the first half as the dorfs score a solid turn 3 goal.

It begins to snow

A failed launch from the rat thrower leaves the ball right in the open.

A troll slayer gets overexcited and falls down in the snow failig to land the second frenzy punch.

This leaves the front wide open, and the rats quickly score, without a fuzz.

Dorfs fail to get in scoring position and just jumps on the ball, the plan works, so far as prevent the skavens from scoring.

Half time score 1-1!

The last half is a flurry of dwarven fists and skaven blood... I am still having flashbacks.

When the red mist settles, the dorfs have managed to score twice, and 2 skavens are left standing(well, lying on the field anyways).

All Glory to Armok!

and thx for the game!

Kobb's Khorne vs. Sahagin Stormers

The Lizardmen get an extra apoc and a potion that sends a skink to A4. Khorne elects to kick, and there's quite a downpour. Khorne pulls New TAB and Speedy back as deep safeties.

S1: A quick snap, then lots of pushes along the line, but only one knock down of a beastman on the end. A skink blitz knocks the skink over.

K1: The minotaur falls over, taking the krox with him.

S2: This set of blocking goes much better, with a warrior and a beastman going down. The two deep safeties get surrounded, a skink passes the ball to a skink, who gets it within a couple of yards of the goal line.

K2: Speedy knocks over the ball carrier. His attempt to pick up the ball sends it out of bounds. The crowd helpfully throws the ball back on the goal line.

S3: More Khorne players go down. A skink sends the ball scattering into the end zone.

K3: Most of the Khorne team stands up. Speedy gets tackled by a skink trying to get to the ball.

S4: A skink picks up the ball for the score.

K4: The stormers get a perfect defense. The touchback goes to a warrior on the line. The minotaur knocks the krox out of the game. Most of the rest of the Stormers line is knocked over, with one stunned. The ball carrier and speedy run downfield together.

S5: A blitz knocks the warrior over. A skink fails to pick up the ball.

K5: A saurus is injured. Most of the Khorne team heads downfield. Speedy tries to pick up the ball... after much bouncing, it lands in the hand of a skink.

S6: The minotaurs tentacles keep a saurus from getting away. A skink tries to pass the ball, but TAB picks it off.

K6: A skink gets injured. New TAB tries to run the ball in, but falls over in the end zone.

S7: A skink picks up the ball and tries to toss it to another, but it comes up short.

K7: New TAB stands up, and a beastman picks up the ball and hands it to him for the touchdown.

S8: New TAB stays deep, but the rest of the team goes on the line.

K8: A saurus gets knocked out by a rookie, who is tossed from the game.

Halftime Score: Kobb's Khorne 1 - 1 Sahagin Stormers

K9: The Stormers get a blitz on the kickoff, letting them get a skink under the kickoff. Speedy and a rookie pull back to knock him over, and New TAB picks it up. The Saurus line goes down, and Khorne swarms over to get warriors on skinks.

S9: Four skinks knock over a warrior. A skink gets beside New TAB. A skinks falls over trying to get away from Speedy.

K10: After some blocks, New TAB runs forward and tosses the ball to a downfield rookie, who runs in the score.

S10: Speedy and New TAB are deep safeties. Khorne gets perfect defense. An attempt by a skink to run the ball along the sideline leads to it going to the crowd and coming back in, still deep in Stormer territory.

K11: Several blocks. Then the strong beastman falls on the ball.

S11: One skink fails to pick up the ball, bouncing it into the hands of another.

K12: The ball carrier gets knocked over.

S12: Another skink picks up the ball, hands it to a skink, and gets most of the way to the end zone.

K13: A rookie skink gets killed. Another is knocked out. Speedy gets beside the ball carrier. His closest ally is knocked down.

S13: Speedy's tackling again comes in handy, as he knocks out the ball carrier.

K14: A skink is knocked into the stands. Speedy tries and fails to pick up the ball.

S14: Some knock downs.

K15: The minotaur knocks out a saurus. Speedy fails to pick up the ball again.

S15: The skinks make a final play for the ball, managing to dodge into Speedy and pick up the ball. However, the 1-die blitz against him comes up skulls.

K16: Speedy knocks out the new ball carrier. The fans throw the ball to midfield. New TAB picks up the ball and tosses it to Soft Hands, who flubs the catch.

S16: A block knocks over a warrior.

Final Score: Kobb's Khorne 2 - 1 Sahagin Stormers

Thoughts: The early luck made me worry it was going to be a long day. But then the krox went down, and that was the start of the tide turning. I feel like I should've been able to make a third score, but the rain ensured that my opportunities were few. 20 SPP after MVP makes for a good day no matter how you slice it, as does staying in the playoff hunt.

...Once more my luck proves to be meaningless in plays that make no tactical sense and are only done because there is so little else to do that the only wise option is to pull back and just let the other team score.

With the amount of sacrifices my team has made to Nuffle this season I question whether he just fucking hates me or not.

Matchups for Week 13.
Kanil - Self Inflicted vs Jartol - Manner Pylon
ank - Bay12 Breakers vs Burnt Pies - Brunch's Big Bads
monk12 - Monk's Marauders vs ndkid - Kobb's Khorne
Charmander - Sahagin Stormers vs AlStar - Glistening Dementia

Just two games to play, and things remain very close. Four teams playing for a single spot, and AlStar isn't safe either.

Also, from what I've gathered, tie breaks on Cyanide are wins first, but the second tie break is really obscure/nonsensical. Something like alphabetical order or team value -- not the kind of thing you'd want your season to be based on.

I can however apparently just choose who makes the playoffs and who doesn't, so in the event of a tie, we could come up with a more sensible tiebreak criteria. Any thoughts?

Kind of late in the season to have this conversation, so we could perhaps come up with a rule for season 7, if someone doesn't want it applied this season.

I believe it's Points, then Wins, then number of TDs Scored, then... either Team Rating or Least Number of TDs against.

edit: checked from another Bloodbowl league I was in, it's points then TD differential:

It's not, though. I'm almost certain I've seen players sorted by things other than TD difference. I've never seen wins not be the first tiebreak, though -- that is interesting.

Yeah, in a league I'm playing that just had it's first day wrapped up, I won 2-1 and am ranked ahead of an orc team that won 2-0. We're both behind a Khemri that won 1-0. Fucking Cyanide.

Yeah... I'm pretty bad at that. My apologies for wasting your time. Does anyone know if league moderators can advance the day? I could just have everyone be moderators, I'd imagine (or at least hope) that none of you'd do anything disruptive and it'd make things easier and less wasteful of people's time.

Kobb's Khorne vs. Monk's Marauders

Between matches, the minotaur spent time bench pressing beastmen, and got his Strength up to 6 (which means he's a clawed frenzied S7 on a blitz). A second beastman gets A4. Monk gets 270k to play with, which go to some Bloodweiser and a wandering Apoc. Monk elects to kickoff. A riot runs the clock for a turn.

K2: A warrior starts things off by knocking out a lineman. A blitz frees up one side of the line, and the new catcher runs through. The ogre and another lineman go down. New TAB picks up the ball, but fumbles it on the throw.

M2: A blitzer runs downfield and picks up the ball beside New TAB, then dodges back away. The S4 beastman (still taking suggestions on his nickname) is stunned.

K3: The ball carrier is knocked over. New TAB picks up the ball and runs back toward the midfield. The minotaur and orge knock each other over, doing more damage to himself than the orge; the apoc saves the day.

M3: A lineman blitzes down New TAB, sending the ball among players of both teams. A lineman gets ejected fouling.

K4: After some blocks to clear room, New TAB stands up, picks up the ball, throws it downfield to Crafty Two-Arms, who dodges and runs in the score.

M4: Speedy and New TAB are the deep safeties. The Marauders get a quick snap. A blitz knocks out the strong beastman. Humans flood through that side of the pitch. The ogre knocks over a warrior.

K5: The deepest blitzer and catcher get knocked over. A beastman starts to run for the thrower with the ball. The ogre and the rest of the line get knocked over.

M5: The thrower throws to a catcher on the opposite side, who runs downfield with it.

K6: A warrior double-skulls trying to blitz said catcher.

M6: The catcher runs in the score.

K7: New TAB catches the high kick and runs it forward. Khorne rolls over the ogre and two linemen, and gets two players in score-catching position.

M7: Monk gets defenders around the two deep catchers.

K8: With some blocks and a lucky roll or two, New TAB dodges away from his defender, one of the catchers gets into the end zone away from coverage, and the pass is made for the touchdown.

M8: A block.

Halftime Score: Kobb's Khorne 2 - 1 Monk's Marauders

M9: Speedy and New TAB are the deep safeties again. Khorne goes with a slightly different setup of the 9 players on the line, trying to put strength on the wings. Then Nuffle shows his support of Khorne by having the kickoff land right beside the minotaur in an empty spot on the human side of the line, and giving Khorne a perfect defense. The dodge-block warrior is tackled down by a blitz, knocking him out. Another two warriors are knocked down.

K9: Soft Hands picks up the ball, pushes a catcher out of the way, and runs down field with Claw as his lead blocker. Speedy tries to catch up to them from behind. The line is a mess, and the minotaur decides to take a piss.

M10: A catcher strips the ball from Soft Hands, and the Super Thrower runs in to pick up the ball. The ogre stuns himself knocking over the minotaur.

K10: The thrower is blitzed out, knocking him out. The crowd throws the ball deep into Marauder territory. A deep agile beastman (DAB? YES! New nickname!!!) picks up the ball and gets it beside the goal line.

M11: A blitzer stuns DAB, sending the ball into the stands. It eventually comes to rest near where it started on the first sideline.

K11: Claw picks up the ball and hands it to Speedy, who runs it in.

M12: Another quick snap for the Marauders. DAB is immediately knocked out. Long-and-Strong (the S4 M7 beastman) is stunned. Fritz is knocked out. The catcher with the ball runs slightly over the line to the Khorne side of the pitch.

K12: The ogre and two linemen go down. A warrior knocks out the ball carrier. Beastmen get on all the downfield humans.

M13: Two beastmen go down, but Super Thrower double-1s on the pickup.

K13: Super thrower is knocked out by LaS. The ball is tossed into the Marauder backfield.

M14: An attempt to pick up the ball by a lineman fails.

K14: The lineman by the ball is knocked over, and speedy gets beside the ball.

M15: A lineman picks up the ball, but fails the pass.

K15: New TAB picks up the ball and runs it toward the end zone. Humans get knocked down.

M16: Some blocks.

K16: New TAB runs in the score at the whistle.

Final Score: Kobb's Khorne 4 - 1 Monk's Marauders

Thoughts: I got absurdly lucky on my blocks... despite plenty of dodge on Monk's side, I almost always got clean blocks. I got absurdly lucky with the crowd... pretty much every ball tossed in was to Monk's side of the pitch. I didn't manage a single casualty, but at this stage of the season, a bloodless victory is something I will accept quite gratefully. Certainly, Monk played far better than that score suggested.
