Hello fellow Dorf
murderers abusers Overseers!
I have been playing around with and studying the latest release, primarily the additions to evil regions. I have attempted fortresses in these regions before, but they have failed miserably.
However, I have decided to contribute to the
‼SCIENCE‼ surrounding the undead and evil regions. I will record my findings as well as the story of my fortress here.
Current
‼SCIENTIFIC‼ findings:
1.) Kitten corpses become cat corpses when reanimated. It is unknown if this applies to all animals. I will have to leave a puppy outside some time and see...
2.) undead birds do fly even if their wings are rotted to the point that the should be unusable.
Entry 1: 15th of Granite, 119, early spring.I embarked with 2 miners, a woodcutter, a crafter adequate in many skills, a grower/thresher, a butcher/tanner, and a cook/brewer.
As soon as we embarked, it started raining pungent slush, which is the same stuff that rained on my previous two fort attempts. It causes uncontrolled vomiting for a little while, and can kill small creatures such as cats.
EVERYBODY GET YOUR DRUNKEN FANNIES INSIDE
Luckily, everything got inside before anything died or the KIWI CORPSES OF DOOM reached us. I also made a 5 tile long, 1 tile wide entry hallway to make it harder for stuff to get inside.
After everyone was safely in the meeting area, I started digging out an area for agricultural work, such as farms, farmers workshops, kitchens, butchers shops, tanneries, and stills.
As soon as I dig out stockpile rooms (they will be directly above the currently dug out rooms, and be the same size) I will move all the crap from the wagons indoors and make doors from the wagon wood to blockade the entrance hallway.
Entry 2: 16th of Granite, 119, early spring.OH GOD A KITTEN DIED FROM BLOOD LOSS. It looks like I will need to postpone stockpile rooms and instead make a corpse pit to deal with the dead kitten. It looks like the other one will die soon as well.
Entry 3: 24th of Granite, 119, early spring.I made a 2 tile deep pit in front of the entrance to my fort with a 1 tile wide walkway in the middle, which I plan to put weapon traps on to make enemies dodge into the zombie pit.
It isn't
quite finished, but it's very close to completion. I already threw the kitten corpse into it. The other kitten is still alive, but it does look like it may die any minute now...
Also, I found STONE! HUZZAH! I can make those doors that I desperately need to seal myself off from the zombies and other beasties.
Entry 4: 6th of Slate, 119, Mid-spring.Apparently, 2 tiles deep isn't enough to keep dorfs from getting scared by zombies in a pit. Crap.
I need to do something about the entrance, because now my farmer refuses to come inside after grabbing seeds even though THE CAT CORPSE CAN'T EVEN PATH TO HIM. I think a temporary ramp to grant direct access to the wagon would be best.
Entry 5: 15th of Slate, 119, mid-spring.Apparently, I didn't embark with any booze. Not sure how that happened, but I didn't. On the bright side, the murky pools just defrosted, so now my dwarves have something to drink for the time being. A red panda sow corpse chased them around for a pit, but only caused a tiny scratch on my woodcutter before being killed. It re-rises every now and then, but gets killed shortly afterwards. If I could only deal with the cat corpse problem...
Entry 6: 16th of Slate, 119, mid-spring.OH GOD THE FARMER DIED WE'RE ALL DEAD.
if I don't get my other dwarves inside ASAP, we're all dead. Forget about the main entrance, I'm digging a back door then sealing it off after they get back inside.
ADDITION: The crafter and 1 miner died too now, and the remaining miner decided to take a nap out in the open right after digging the staircase. We are SCREWED if that miner doesn't wake up.
Entry 7: 22nd of Slate, 119, mid-spring.Somehow, the cook and the remaining miner got inside. Everyone else is dead. I am enabling all labors on these two in order for them to get work done. Hopefully I'll be able to get some of the migrants inside, as it is impossible to populate through reproduction due to the fact that dwarves won't partake in incest.
This is going to be extremely difficult...
ADDITION: Oh my god, the idiot miner ran outside and refuses to come back inside due to the cat corpses THAT HE JUST RAN PAST TO GET OUTSIDE.
Now I'm just left with the cook and a bunch of starving sheep. Good god, this is getting worse and worse. I am abandoning the miner and sticking with the cook. I have enabled all labors except woodcutting and I am trying to get him to throw all the sheep into the pit.
EDIT: Okay, the cook won't pit the animals and a bunch of undead got inside. I realized the miner is doing fine, so I'm having him dig a new fort somewhere else. Again, I will hopefully get some migrants into it as well.
