The Dead Walk
« on: February 21, 2012, 01:26:50 pm »

While i was playing DF mode, suddenly this appears:

The dead walk.Hide while you still can

For my good luck i had my legendary axedwarf, then he fought all of them, blah, blah ,blah but then, the necromancer come and  animated all of the corpses including the chopped limbs, then 30 more mins more of fight, and then  a goblin siege came and the zombies and my axedwarf destroyed the army and in total, there are like 550 undeads. (sry for my english, im not very good at it :-\), i havent killed the necro yet, its impossible to reach him.

So, is that intended to happen? undestroyable zombies (unless you kill the necromancers like in adv)?

What can i do?, i dont want my legendayy axedwarf to die...

Help?

That's exactly how necromancers work, yup.

You could try a few different ways to wipe out the undeads...magma would probably melt and destroy them all, and a series of cage traps would trap them safely for storage.

You could of course build an atomsmasher, which is a bridge that doesn't retreat but extends flips up and down. That would destroy the zombies outright without risking the creation of any more undead.

Killing the necromancer with your axelord is a good idea too.

Put a few atom-smashers on your entry corridor, set the levers to repeat, and open your doors - welcome zombies with open bridges !)

I can confirm eyeless super soldiers are a good candidate for such endeavours, just make sure you have a distraction for the zombies first, they will still target Urist McBawsStitches :C

Then you've just got to deal with the Horde. I recommend siege engines, cave ins and/or Dwarf Rush. Zombies are slow. You can kite them with some Dwarf micro too.

catapults and wooden balista bolts might even work...

get a vampire soldier to kill the necromancer, the zombies ignore vampires.
