Why not make it like 2005 Spore? You stick different parts wherever and the computer simulates how the creature would move. Maybe you also can alter it's personality if you'd like, with a simple slider system for newbies and an advanced system for old timers which is much more fine tunable, but more difficult to understand. The computer takes these values and plays them against each other to see which creature wins in which area.

Good idea, and later one we do my long term plan. But for veterans of the game and awesome people it has a modelling program used to customize creatures, and in some maps weapons and armor is allowed

I still think the oil (or methane) leak would work very well.  Sure it wouldn't eradicate the algae, but do we actually want to?  Its proving to be a rather useful resource.

Any sort of explosive would only kill a huge portion of the algae, hopefully allowing us to contain whats left.

For oil vs methane:
An oil spill will be much easier to control than a methane burst.  We can release exactly as much as we want and then turn it off.  You're right that oil will probably take weeks or months longer than methane, but I don't see how thats really a huge issue.

Acctualy is was just my idea of a long term plan, set the planet up like Reach in Halo, then Earth with 300 MAC clusters just have orbital lasers instead....and super orbital lasers....hehe a SOL
