OOC: The tech notes are excellent, but as each post is only one month, I will generally only allow two research ideas to be investigate per turn, so perhaps bold the two that are most important to you... otherwise I'll take the top two or the two that seem most to fit with what other players are asking for.Cheap multi-use drones are researched, using a modular function that allows them to do multiple jobs. They are being produced and stored on the surface of Aries. The hydroelectrical plant is finally set up on the site of a future river, and climate satellites are placed in orbit to begin to detect weather patterns when they occur. The temperature is still far too low for any water to melt or evaporate, thoguh.
After consulting the medical database, it is found that enough data is available to construct basic medical robots using the modular drones. These will be able to tend to day-to-day health needs, but lack the sophistication to diagnose advanced diseases and see trends developing. At best, they are a short term solution. A more advanced version could be researched, however.
A small probe is launched towards the moons again, to be left in orbit. It will arrive next month. In the meantime, pictures of the planets are sent to the moons, with Aquarius and Aries labeled by their names in Morse code. Several messages are beamed back, but they once again fail to come through correctly due to some sort of different decoding protocol.
Designs for a space telescope are met with complaints from the captain, who sees it as a poor use of limited resources. "Let's look at the stars when we get all our people off of the ship."
It is a slow month in that regards, with some shuttle maintenance meaning only 400 people make it down. A flu pandemic also rears its head, leaving many workers sick and unable to contribute. Unfortunately, it is rather virulent, and 25 people die from it, including the first couple married on the colony.
Along those lines, a small graveyard is set up outside of the colony, with simple graves set up. This seems to help with some of the grief. The AI catches rumors of panic, as almost 5% of the population has passed away in the last few months. The captain seems at a loss with what to do, and people begin to make calls for a representative government to be formed to take over from him.
On Aquarius, a wicked hurricane-like storm strikes the algae patch. Its ferocity is unlike anything seen on Earth. It effectively destroys the entire harvesting operation, and spreads the algae and plankton well beyond its previous contained area. It now covers nearly 8% of the surface, but that percentage is spread out over a much more diffuse area. "We may have to take drastic measures if we wish to stop this infestation," murmurs the terraformer.
