Btw, if we want to hold the algae poplation under control, we can just build another one of these lenses. There aren't much organisms that manages to develop an immunity for orbital death lasers.

Also, begin Terraforming stage 2: Now that the atmosphere is coming along nicely and that water is avaible, seed the surface of Aries with cyanobacteria and other microorganisms. Try to create a safe and stable microbiological micro environement.

Yeah. Disecting avians is bad but boiling their oceans is A okay.  :)

Boiling the green creep that's slowly eating away their habitat seems OK.
We just need to be carefull with what we blow up. Also, can't we just airdrop some whales( No wait that's plankton) or some other species to eat the algae.

I still say we contain the algae and dump it in one of the gas giants

the alien bacteria may be poisonous, just like the unfriendly neighbors who would put a welcoming party to the whales, no.
we could though, catch some alien fish, mutate them to eat the plankton but making them sterile, we dont need another slip off and accidentally creating a sub-ecosystem on the plankton

so

>disagree with dropping some of the wildlife we have
>propose to mutate fish into sterility and plankton eating

That will accomplish nothing more then just killing the algae. It's not because they decimated life on a habitable planet they will be able to survive somewhere else.
If we want to destroy the algae there are easier and cheaper ways.

Why not see why the virus isn't working anymore at the first place?  :-\

Probably the algae developped immunity. Tends to happen. Random mutations result in accidental immunity and then the virus kills all the non immune ones.

No.We dicked around with genetics and we got no results.

You really need to change a bit of the sequence and it should fix itself. The problem is the possibility of jumping. Viruses are difficult to direct so the possibility of it jumping to an indeginious species is rough but significant.

We're working on the genetics system. Sadly it seems the algae have developped a broad immunity so a simple chance can't solve it.
Also because we're being careful and responsible this time not all working virusses can be used( Don't want to kill of the indegenous species). A development time off one month is logic. Btw, the Algae incident might be our only chance to get the scientist so far to let us built another Death ray thingie.

I think the orbital lens might be a cheaper and permanent solution. It'll also allows us to harvest some of the algae( As we can turn it on and off to get a stable pop).

>Consult the scientist on the possibility of using the solar lense to eradicate the algae and plankton.

Haha lasers work by focusing beams. You would only be able to kill a very small amount with a focused laser or focus a large column of light on photosynths that thrive in warm climates. Then again I don't know the abilities of the untested photo lense so I speak only speculatively.
