Exactly, you'd rather do it. Does that sound like something worthy of being called madness?

Also, I believe he meant that we refill our power by killing things, to put it bluntly. In turn, our power is unlimited in that we can accomplish quite much anything if we have the magical reserves to back it up.

Yes... It does.  For what greater madness is there than to IMPOSE OUR INSANITY ON EVERYONE!
Edit:  Additionally, the our madness doesn't nessisarily mean insanity.  It could also be megalomania or something.

You convince the king to declare war on the trolls.Sadly he and his army perish slaughtered.The trolls are marching towards the city.You manage to find a smart kobold and decide to make him your apprentice.You look around the city and you see it is surrounded by mountains.You are completely surrounded by the troll army.

Create a titanical sphere of ethereal acid spreading outwards from the city walls, fueling your 'cleansing' magic with the local nobles' lives. Once the sphere reaches the Trolls their life essence shall become the instrument of their very damnation!
