I've got no idea how it happend, everyone was quite mad because I didn't stock up properly for winter and the fortress was filled with tantrum throwing people.

Quite suddenly, the whole fortress got flooded. Normally, I'd just think that some stupid tantrummer busted a door, but this flood ignored all other doors and flooded the world up until the river. Looking at the gamelog, I can only see a jeweler's shop being toppled shortly before the flood.
