He laughs. "And you've only found this out now?"

"So then from what I can gather you we are from different times, me, and my comrades are equipped with weapons that far outstreak those you carry. The only conclusion I can gather is something wanted us here, but why?"

Re: War Never Changes: Where the Obvious is Finally Discovered
« Reply #33 on: February 28, 2012, 06:51:14 pm »

It finally dawns on you that the horsemen are actually from another, completely different time period. You share your new-found discovery with the Cossack. He shrugs.

"It was obvious."

He knows as much as you do for why you were gathered here, and the two of you spend an hour debating the possibilities, before your increasing tiredness forces you break off the conversation and fall asleep. The night passes uneventfully, and after a quick breakfast the two groups prepare to hit the road again. The Cossack leader politely asks you which way your will be going.

"Man of Russia, I do not think that we are near Germany anymore. But if you go your way, then I shall go mine. If you were to take my advice, then thou should come with us. The road to the north is forest for at least day's ride, and under your own locomotion it is even longer."

Having said all that they have wanted to say, the Cossacks jump on their horses and speed down the road, in the direction that you came from. Well then, it looks like you only have two options right now. North, which is the direction that you where heading, and South, which is where you came from.

Realizing that you lack any sort of food what-so-ever, you decide to follow the Cossacks. One of them eventually turns around and notices your squad. The Cossacks turn back, deciding that travelling in a group is much safer. You make much better time than yesterday, since you are no longer trudging through the forest, and the Cossacks graciously allow the wounded to ride on their horses.

Eventually the forest begins to thin and soon your party breaks out of the forest. You find yourself on top of a hill, while below you a valley filled with farms and villages stretches in front of you, while a line of squat mountains loom in the background. However it is not the majestic sight of the scenery that roots you to the spot, but the army marching through the valley. A massive column of men snake from village to village, with cavalry guarding their flanks and a large team of horse and ox-drawn wagons following behind. From this distance it's impossible to make out any specific details, but the sun glitters magnificently off their uniforms and bayonets.

"Okay, I'll head down into the village to check it out with one of my men, and one of the cossacks. We will leave all weapons we can't conceal behind, and report back what we find. Any volunteers?"

Your soldiers look askance at each other, before one of them finally volunteers. The Cossacks huddle together, whispering among themselves, and eventually they pick one of their number to go with you. You manage to find a couple Tokarev TT-33s, and bayonets make a handy knife for close-work. The Cossack grabs a flintlock pistol, and a large and rather cruel looking knife. Thus armed, you head out for the closest village.

The village is surrounded by a large number of fields, orchards and animal pens. Except for the animals in the pens, they're completely deserted. Judging by the various tools scattered about, the inhabitants of the village must have fled once they spotted the army, which is still fairly far off. Creeping cautiously forward, you eventually reach the outskirts of the village.

The village isn't very large, and is comprised of a cluster of about twenty brick houses, with various outlying buildings that are probably related to farming. Safely concealed behind one of the buildings, you survey the centre of the village. A large crowd of people wearing crude tunics and simple dresses are clustered around a group of horsemen. Unlike the Cossacks, these horsemen seem more professional. They wear black shirts with white breeches and what looks like a pair of bandoleers strung along their chest. Their hats are tall, cylindrical, and ordained with a black feather and has a badge with a skull and crossbones stuck on the front. Their weaponry is similar to the Cossacks, namely sabers, carbines and pistols, though they seem less crude. Additionally, just like the Cossacks, each of the horsemen sports a massive mustache.

With the thirty-or-so horsemen is a rather bookish-looking man, wearing a black coat, yellow pants and with a pair of wire-framed glasses perched on his nose. He seems to be communicating with the villagers by writing into a book before handing it to their leader. Or at least you think that he's the villager's leader. Unlike the other villagers he's wearing an extremely white sheet, wrapped around his body. He also has a couple of golden rings on his fingers.

Continue to watch, but send you man back to bring the men down here, have them stay out of sight. Also have him ask the Cossacks Leader if he will charge the village when your men open fire (If they do)

You tell your man to head back and bring the soldiers and the Cossacks, making sure that they aren't spotted along the way. When the Cossacks arrive you ask their leader if they would be willing to charge the village when your men open fire.

"I would assure you of our cooperation if I knew about this plan of attack."
