Question: Who is Vanod?
(Fanon) Answer: Vanod was a child when the cataclysm happened. When the Gods screamed for blood, when the sinful humans built to the skies and met the Gods. While his home burned then sank, he woke up on a dark island. Scared, he cowered away in a hole until he was older. The last God looked down on him. The rest of them had starved from the lack of belief, and this was the only God Vanod knew.

"Vanod... Cleanse this dark island." The unnamed God croaked, unable to sustain her voice. "Cleanse it of the evil that inhabits it... I am sorry, Vanod... Do this, and you shall be my husband, and we shall regain the world again."

Of course, Vanod might be just a caveman who doesn't have a grand story behind him. But that's what I thought up, and I'm sticking behind it.

It is entirely possible that the night creatures and megabeasts are simply the physical manifestations of the earth. They exist only to remove the virus that is 'civilization.' Since they have no targets, they live simple, peaceful, quiet lives in their shrines and lairs. That is, until this one human decides to start existing and running amok.

This is amazing. Post to watch, +1 reader, etc.

I have decided Vanod is like Jesus, only for Armok. Instead of teaching people to love eachother, he stabs them with a spear. instead of walking on water, he bites night creatures' heads off. Instead of being a savior, he's a genocidist.

I am totally cool with this.

If anyone could come into existence simply by deciding to, it's Vanod.

He did come into existence by deciding to.  He's the only human in the world.

He did come into existence by deciding to.  He's the only human in the world.
He formed spontaneously from the lifeblood of the earth meeting the flesh of nature: magma and mud. He has fire flowing through his veins and is very, very filthy.

This is the best origin story.

I think the obvious explanation is that Armok had a child with a random goddess.

No. Armok had children with ALL the world's goddesses, and then threw them in a pit and the only one left alive was Vanod, having eaten his kin.

No. Armok had children with ALL the world's multiverse's goddesses, and then threw them in a pit and the only one left alive was Vanod, having eaten his kin. And absorbed their bad-assery.

Fixed that for you. :P

And yay Armok did throw back a laugh as a single boy crawled from the pit, clad only in blood.

"You have done well child! You have pleased the insatiable!" the bloodgod bellowed.

The boy rose to a stand and moved before Armok and kneeled. "Raise your gaze to mine, boy. I give you two gifts. The first is your name, Vanod, wear it well. The second is this..."

The gods voice faded out as vanod awoke in a dark forest, surrounded by red eyes.

A frown plastered over Vanods, now clean face. Vanod raises his fist, now clasped around a sharp stick and his other clasped around a flat stick, and sets to work. Without question. Without words. Without fear. Without hesitation.

Wouldn't it be funny, if, immediately after us posting about his being a divine, savage badass he gets killed in a lame way?
