Ambushes

In the Recent Developments it says travel ambushes are back in adv mode. What does this exactly mean? Does it mean when traveling the overworld map you can be attacked? If so, by what? Does it matter what type of region you're in?

EDIT: I was attacked by wolves when traveling, so I know that, but I'd still like more info.

You can get randomly attacked by anything that lives in the region you are in-so if you travel through a terrifying mountain, expect to get ambushed by skeletal giant Eagle.

Thanks! My guy was ambushed by about 18 wolves. I'll let you guess the outcome.
