Flux stone
« on: February 20, 2012, 06:35:51 am »

Im pretty OCD when it comes to fortress locations, since the new release i've spent days trying to find a world i like, right amount of dragons, right amount of demons, right amount of elves - and their locations, right towers. Bleh. Its an issue. I've finally found one I like, also found a site I like, but problem is the only stone layer is "Flux stone" along with clay and little soil.

My question is, what kind of ore can i expect to find in flux only layers? Since i've plenty of it. Heh.

Thanks.

According to the wiki its either Chalk, Limestone or Dolomite.  Basically it says since its a sedimentary layer, there is a decent chance you will find some iron ore within it, although you may be unlucky and find none! :/

Flux is limestone, chalk, dolomite, or marble; limestone, chalk, and dolomite are sedimentary, while marble is metamorphic. Sedimentary layers are the only layers that have magnetite and limonite, immensely useful iron ores, as well as the only layers that have bituminous coal or lignite. So if you have all those ingredients: score! It's steel-making time. Marble has a wide variety of gemstones, as well as malachite (copper ore) and some other stuff.

Basically, flux layers are awesome and you should snap them up. Also, there will be LOTS of stone there. You're guaranteed like fifty layers of igneous intrusive rock (granite, gabbro, basalt), for instance.

Isn't flux stone itself also required to make steel?

If you use flux to make your crafts/blocks it makes them twice as valuable.   Or did. I haven't played the new version so I'm not sure if the values have been changed.
