I have an irritatingly long concentration span (7+ hours straight), and I seldom get truly bored--so I'm remarkably susceptible to something like the internet eating gobs of time.  It's a very good trait, but it's not helpful at all when combined with certain habits.

This one time, I spent something like two hours trying to scrub the rust off a cast-iron pan. I know what you mean.

Best of luck with that <3

I already said  my good byes in the progg rage thread, but I'll say it again. Fare well, Vector. I'll miss you too, and I do hope we'll meet again sometime. Maybe when you go to accept your Nobel prize in Stockholm you can give me a call?

Since when was she leaving?

Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

*Ahem*

Dear Vector,

I have very, very little idea who you are. The only kind of interaction(if you could even call it that) I can recall having with you is posting in one or two of the same threads as you in Life Advice. I know that you are a female probably, and that you like to use food items as your forum avatar. Oh, and something about failing academically and having emotional issues. That's it. As such, it is very difficult for me to be anything other than absolutely neutral regarding your departure.

But despite never getting the chance to know you, or even having any real desire to do so, I wholeheartedly wish you a not terrible life, and a very distant death(unless you want to die, in which case I hope that works out for you, too). May your existence be one of balance, growth, and progression, and contain only a minimal amount of suck.

Amen.

Aho.

Godspeed.

May the force be with you.

Best of luck.

Goodbye, Vector. I always found your posts to be interesting and well informed. I am frequently jealous of how articulate you can be.

We will be poorer for your absence, but richer for having known you.

EDIT: Found this bit that Charles Babbage wrote of Ada Lovelace, and it seemed an appropriate "epitaph" (kinda morbid to call it that, but not sure what other term to use):

possible its multitudinous Charlatans – every thing

Damnit. This made me realise I still haven't posted my rye bread recipe to Vector's vegetarian thread.

So long.

There's still time, I say for reasons that are definitely entirely altruistic and not mostly about getting the recipe myself.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Bye Vector. Come back soon!
