Also, if you're going to argue that "gypsy" has totally diverged from its original meaning and simply refers to a lifestyle now: That hasn't happened, and it doesn't. "Gypsy" still carries plenty of connotations with it, like being a thief or some kind of mystical vabagond, and a traveling wastrel of sorts. At its least ethnically-charged, t's an entire character archetype, or loose group of them, not just a profession or lifestyle. It has about as many (mostly negative) connotations as "wetback", the n-word, "faggot", or any other slur you can think of. Hell, I even looked in dictionaries, and the most charitable definition I can find amounts to "people who act the way gypsies act".

You know what? I have no interest in debating this here. You want to talk about this? We have a progressive annoyance thread, but in a few minutes we filled up a page...

Or you could just admit that you were wrong and learn something.

Wait, what happened here? Wasn't this thread about saying farewells to Vector?

It is, then Max White said something stupid, then people had to explain why it was stupid, then he denied that it was stupid and tried to make us The Bad Guys for calling him out on his stupid behavior.

You don't see to notice the bit where I'm trying to move an argument from the 'Goodbye Vector' thread to the 'Debate here' thread.
Seriously, calm down a little.

Yup.  I read the last 20 posts thinking "Aaaahhh! It's happening already!"

I'm joking, really.  It's just ironic that kind of thing would happen in the farewell thread to the person often credited with having an aura of civility.

All gypsy discussion in this thread can stop right now.  You can take it into the Annoyance thread if you wish, but if it persists here then I will report all involved parties it to Toady, this thread is for saying goodbye to Vector, not insulting each other or arguing over who's definition of racial stereotype is correct.

I keep thinking about "Goodnight Moon" whenever I see this topic. Maybe I should write a rendition for the forum, I have a hankering to rhyme "Vector" with "A stressed out lawyer, discussing the private sector."
