At this moment I literally stand up from my chair, point my fingers at my laptop and yell out my love for this game at the screen.

You are an amazing one :p

I don't even talk about this game with my friends since playing a graphicless game like this makes me a (quoting) "weirdo"

Really? Iv been called a dork, nerd, geek, but never a weirdo. Then they say "ima go blay MW3 for the next 5 hours", and by 5 hours i mean like 50 hours, and by hours i mean like years.

You know, because playing CoD 24/7 is perfectly cool but if you play a game like DF for 1 you get frowned apon. No wonder our society is so corrupted.

And totally agreed with this. Don't bother with Skyrim.

They're all great games, thanks to the modding community. And now that community is stronger than ever, thanks to Skyrim. I can't stand for you asking someone to completely pass Skyrim up, or even Oblivion. Both have tremendous amounts of fun to be had. (That's not to say I still don't find Morrowind a better game. ;))

Clearly, this represents six side-by-side wheelbarrows, as indicated by the right half of the icon.  The left half indicates they are carrying babies with hats in these wheelbarrows.

Presumably, they are lining up to dump them into the baby furnaces.

I encountered that wierd bug where the enemies respawn if you wait, so I've been holding out for a patch to resolve the issue. But my dwarf is still alive and kicking!

Hehe, DF is probably the only game where "alive and kicking" does not necessarily mean that he still has hands... or head, for that matter.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

I keep coming back for this game, as it's "that" addicting. Can't. Stop. The ASCII wants me. And I want the ASCII. Blargh.

Eh, I'm going to start playing again after like... a year. Awesome mods will be up and ready to download and bugs will be squashed!

well theres another interesting point. a game shouldn't suck monkey ballsack without mods. which the latter elder scroll games pull off quite nicely, fucking Bethesda had to go graphics/simplicity crazy...

remember in morrowwind when you had to make crushing decisions, that challenged your morals, your life, and your wallet? seen one of those in skyrim? morrowwind was not fucking easy either...

Yeah, simply choosing between 3 great houses was great. You couldn't be the leader of everything.

...Why are we even discussing Elder Scrolls games in here? ???

On topic(Well, kinda): I am yet to survive a battle with a mummy. Obviously I am not trying hard enough.

Sorry to bring it out, but in comparison, is it wrong to say that ASCII battles are more epic than Elders Scrolls? Reading about situtations seem more gruesome than actually seeing it. My mind exaggerates the bloodsheds and gory massacres.

The way of imagining what's going on is the main highlight of this game in my opinion.

Reminds me of when I was 6 and my parents allowed me to watch Jurassic Park. Only problem was that every time someone got eaten, they would cover my eyes so "I wouldn't get scared". They also lost the remote so they couldn't mute it during those scenes... bad idea. I could hear screams and flesh tearing and all kinds of horror, but I couldn't see anything specific, thus leaving it all to my imagination. My imagination turned a PG movie into an R rated movie. There's a reason that I was afraid of Velociraptors in my closet until I was 12

Wow this has gone off track, a thread about how awesome DF is turned into a discussion about Skyrim and JP lol

On the topic of DF-shunning friends: My buddies don't outright dislike dwarf fortress. My friend tried it out, but it was a tad too complex, and he's not into big-budget games (he's playing Earthbound at the moment)

I've yet to run into a mummy. Every character I've made has gotten trashed by some sort of baddie before I have the chance...

is it just me or is everyone on these forums legendary+5 thread derailers? even me, without trying.

on topic: Dwarf Fortress is the king of emergent gameplay and player innovation, i cant wait to see what this game will be like in 5 years or so.

Ah hell yes, that story is basically a perfect analogy for Dwarf Fortress in general. You lurk about making your way along at your own pace, not much happens, maybe you have fun looking at what there is to see, but nothing tremendous is going on.

Then, bam. You're in the thick of it. And it is glorious.
