:D

So simple. Yet it's a perplexing mystery to my mind. Wonderful! I was wondering how you compute the specific part-damage ratio.
The part damage ratio I do in my head, I just visualize the battle in my mind, and imagine the ships in sections to help me decide damage distribution, facing, etc.

Turn 4 - Rebels, and Power Core Malfunctions

Captain Nrelshy, and Mr. Success (Nirur Torir)

Captain Fluffy Wags looks glad that your eager to help, but his smile is soon swapped with a grimace as he speaks, "Yes, well we have several missions for you, but one of them must be finished first. There is currently a Merchant Fleet en-route to Kilo Nine, on board one of those Cargo freighters is a salvaged data bank that contains all of our bases locations, fleet details, everything about this rebellion is on that data bank. Your job is to break the Mercenary Ships guarding the Merchant Fleet, and capture the Cargo Freighter that has that data bank on-board. Destroying the ship is not an option as we have no idea where else this data may be, now you best prepare yourself Captain Nrelshy. A number of ships will arrive here in two to three hours, they will be your fleet, and I'm afraid that is all you'll have to take that Cargo Freighter. Another Day Captain Nrelshy." With that Fluffy Wags salutes you, and the video screen goes dark.

At the prow of your ship you see all of the smaller craft turn, and begin to leave the area, meanwhile a signal from Tinus comes up on screen. Your crewman automatically accepts, and the Salvage Captains face beams at you from the large video screen as he says, "Well done Nrelshy, now if there is any questions, or supplies you may need just ask me, and I'll see what I can do." Is there anything you may need, or will you just wait for the reinforcements to get here?

7 Turns to Prepare, or you could skip ahead

Captain Jack Scott, and the Void's End (empfan)

You fall backward as the tug of the warp drives pushes on you, and within seconds you find yourself sitting on the floor staring towards a lone planet surrounded by asteroids, and some structure you can't exactly identify. Max hauls you off the floor, and back onto your feet as he says, "Sir our Warp Drive is okay, but the Main Power Core is heavily damaged, and our main Engines are offline. Sir, if we don't get this ship to a repair bay I'm afraid we may lose the ship, the cost of replacing the Main Power Core is to high, though if we can reach a station nearby we might be able to save it." You frown as you hear the report, and then turn, ask if there is a station near your location.

"No sir, it seems our jump was off a bit, if our records are right we are at least 800 Lightyears away from the nearest registered, or unregistered station. We don't even have records of this sector in our database, whatever this place is its definitely in deep space, and to get out we'll need to find the warp gate, Ancient or otherwise." You curse, and realize you only have two options, check out the structure in the asteroid field, or sit here, and try to perform field repairs.

K'zan, and Star's Glare (Sinpwn)

You order the salvaging to continue, and head down to inspect the salvage yourself to see if there is anything worthwhile in the pile of scraps, and wiring that was brought on board. As you arrive in the cargo bay you find a mountain of scrap metal, computer parts, piles of wiring, and the like, but as you search through the piles of junk you find two interesting things. the first is an old databank, upon touching it you instantly realize its thousands of years old, maybe dating back to the time of the Ancients, and the other is a rusted drone fighter. The interesting thing about them was the data bank was housed inside of the drone as if it was tasked with preserving it to inform some unknown entity.

Not long after you touch the databank several red orbs on snake like arms pop out of the machine, and begin to scan your entire structure for what reason you have no idea, but should you let them finish, or destroy it before it can cause harm?

Within minutes of your message Captain Leanthas replies, "I checked with the Merchants, and they said that we will be splitting up into smaller groups once we arrive at the Warp gate. Me, you, and three other vessels will be escorting a small group of the merchant vessels as a sort of advance guard. Any sign of agression from the U.M., and the rest of the fleet will warp in, decimate the U.M. forces, and then warp out. Right now we don't have to worry about being attacked, we're in the merchants own territory, and people don't mess with the Merchants on their own turf, they can field some deadly weapons in their own space. They've also arranged to send some munitions to each of the ships in the advance guard just send the Merchants your weapon specs, and they'll send you some munitions."

Praetor Valicum Trivonii, and Xiliosh (Xardalas)

Phase 1: Allies vs. Thugs

You and your men open fire on the thugs, and get the jump on them as they are still scrabbling for cover. Four of the would be thugs fall beneath the hail of fire from your men, and the woman you had just rescued. The other two thugs flee down a manhole, and escape into the sewers of the asteroid city. As you rush over, and kick the lid open you find the bodies of two station guards laying down below, and their weapons have disappeared, turning to talk to your crew you notice that Lilian is also wearing the same uniform, and the two dead guys were as well. What the hell have I got into?" you think as you walk over to Lilian, and check to make sure she doesn't need any medical aid.

As you finish checking her you find she has only a few scrapes, and bruises along with a bullet wound in her left leg, but otherwise shes fine, and in no immediate danger. When you look up at her she says, "Thanks for the help there, I'd be dead right now if you didn't help me. I am 2nd Captain Lieutenant of the U.M. Ground Forces, Lilian Selvars at your service. Is there anything I can do to help you for this trouble I've caused?"

Spoiler: Xiliosh (click to show/hide)

Captain Sai'oda Fresa, and Endless Fury (Dwarmin)

Phase 1: Allies vs. Droids

Your men quickly fall into position upon your orders, and prepare to open fire on the Droids, but as you attempt to open the door you find the terminal's power has been cut off. As if in answer the near ear shattering sound of Breo's gun firing, and the sound of shattering glass fills your ears. In front of the door a Droid is ripped in half by the sheer fore of the shot, and the others pause, as if afraid the same may happen to them, but soon enough they continue their advance. In answer to that you, and the two crewmen open fire on the Droids, four more fall to the floor little more then hulks of scrap metal as your bullets find the sensitive wiring, and computing equipment within the Droids hulks.

Returning the aggression the Droids, who now number only three, fire upon your group with the old-timey weapons they wield. The gun's slugs tear through the neck of one of your crewmen, and he falls to the floor dead on the spot. His weapons clatter against the floor, and a pool of blood begins to form beneath him.

Request some anti-ship missiles and enough breaching charges to capture the freighter. If I get missiles, change the ratio of armed missiles to 4 anti-fighter and 6 anti-ship.
Regardless of my success or failure, skip the seven turns of waiting.

Valicum  smiles at her "It wouldn't be right to leave a lovely lady in trouble. As for repaying us...I'm afraid that unless you have a few credits to spare or happen to know anyone who is willing to hire my ship and it's lovely crew, theirs not much you can do for us. " Gestures for one of his crewmen to take a look at her wounded leg. "What did we happen to stumble upon if you don't mind me asking?  "

Get a crewman to look over her leg and do what he can to fix it. Inquire about the fight. Wonder where the hell the crewman I sent to look for jobs is.

Turn 5 - An Old Symbol, Hope & The Loss of Good Men

Captain Nrelshy, and Mr. Success (Nirur Torir)

You send a request for some anti-ship missiles to the scavenger ship, and soon enough a small cargo carrier buzzes its way out a bulkhead in the lower areas of the ship. Its frame, and hull seem to be comprised of various different materials, as if the owner had made it from the scrap pieces of fallen ships, and upon closer inspection it turns out the thing was created out of salvaged hull pieces, computer parts, fighter engines, etc. After a brief wait, barely a couple of minutes, the ship lands in your docking bay, and you head down to meet the pilot and his escorts, who turn out to be some heavily armed soldier-type people wielding heavy Durnish Borer Rifles, and MC-47 Flinters strapped to their sides. They could probably wipe out three fourths of your armed crewmen before you managed to take them down, thankfully they're on your side.

The pilot steps forward, and you take him to be the leader of the group as he speaks "We have six Anti-ship missiles, and a number of PD Rounds to bulk up your munitions storage, we are also being assigned to you for the duration of the mission. I am 2nd in Command of the Resistance Flagship the Hellfire, Robert Frins reporting for duty." He says, and salutes you, the other five soldiers doing the same, and placing their guns at their sides. You exchange brief greetings with the group, and they soon head off to rest up, and relax before the mission and you head back to your not-so comfy Captain's chair on the bridge. Just as you arrive a small warp bubble appears in front of you, nothing more then a vague sphere of disrupted space and the only reason you can tell is from your years of seeing such things in your long slave life.

Within several seconds a handful of ships begin to emerge from the sphere, around a dozen ships are at your disposal, and several fighter wings of modified mining drones. Not much of a fleet, but its all you had, a deep pit began to form in your stomach as the idea that many of these people may bot make it back home reaches your mind, you are their commander, and your orders could be the difference between life, and death to all of them. With that thought in your mind your small fleet sets out, weaving their way through the asteroid field they soon arrive at a decrepit ruin of a warp gate with ships buzzing about it, and bright flashes of light showing up all over the outside of the super-structure.

This was something magnificent, one of those Ancient Gates so old that it had fallen to dis repair, but now they had the power to fix it, and this gate would be the center of your people's hope, right beside you. If the Resistance managed to completely rebuild this, and crack the complex computers within they would have a power no other Empire would ever have, they could put their fleets smack in the middle of any faction's empire, and destroy them before any resistance could be made. As you approached you noticed the lights stop, and the ships begin to move away as the numerous rings that surrounded the gate began to spin faster and faster. Within seconds the dark blue color of your home world's sky fills the void, and the space around it begins to shimmer, and distort as the power of the gate takes effect.

Several messages signalling you too go through arrive just seconds after the gate stabilizes, and your fleet quickly understands the urgency of the situation as the hurriedly rush into the gate, and into the void beyond. As your ship's prow presses into the portal the familiar tug of warp begins to form in the pit of your stomach, but this time much stronger, within seconds of touching the portal your ship is jerked through, and anyone who had been standing before now laid flat on the floor knocked over by the force of the gate. Taking a look out the view port you find that your ships had made it through unharmed, and were now hastily gathering into formation. With that done the gate blinks out of existence behind you, and the engines of your ship stir once more as you head towards your destination.

Must Wait till Tiruin gets to the Station to begin your mission in earnest

Spoiler: Captain Nrelshy (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Mr. Success (click to show/hide)

Captain Jack Scott, and the Void's End (empfan)

You engineers manage to to bring the engines back online, and to functionality within minutes of starting, but the work on the warp drive goes far worse then the engines. Within the first minute of starting work your engineer mange to blow four fusion cells, and compromise the main warp field generator, and by the end of the hour you lose five men to an explosion caused by the warp field generator's casing cracking wide open. All that remains of your warp drive now is a soot covered frame with puddles of melted cryo-steel covering the floor.

Your warp drive ruined, and with no alternative you set out in the direction of the structure you had seen earlier, the trip takes two hours, but your soon weaving your way around the last asteroid as the facility comes into view. A massive ring of sorts is fused into two asteroids you that seem as if they could qualify as planetoids, their surface is riddled with domes, and metal tubes, at their poles massive spires jut out into the void covered in haphazard power lines, and what looks to be some ancient form of Point Defense Turrets, little glass domes with dual barrels jutting out from their sides and reinforced by bars of some form of metal. Taking another look you see many more of these scattered all over the structure, and with this second glance you notice hundreds of metal square bulkheads scattered across the unmarred parts of the asteroids' surface.

On the inside of the ring you see hundreds of gantries, closed hallways, and what you assume to be elevators, and soon enough your ship glide into place into one of the lower gantries, and hundreds of clamps, pipes, and hatches latch onto your ship locking it into place. Within minutes you, and a handful of crewmen are armed, and taking up positions at your ship's airlock. The sound of heavy boots clanking against metal can be heard through the door, and within seconds red flashes, and sparks begin to fly as a door cutter of some kind is used to melt the airlock open which falls to the floor with a deafening clang followed by fifty soldiers armed with odd looking rifles, and weird pistols of some sort. They fan out in a semi-circle with their weapons all pointing at you, and yours pointing at them.

As they soldiers fall into rank a man walks in behind them, his hands held behind his back, and his greying hair falling just short of his ears the man is an imposing figure. His deep resounding voice is clear in the deathly silence as he says, "Hello Gentlemen welcome to the Clockwork, I am 1st in Command of the U.M. military forces, and I am requesting you place your weapons on the ground." as he talks you notice the badge pinned to his chest, two olive branches clutched in each talon of a beast called an 'Eagle', the old symbol of the U.M. which went out of use when Mankind's greatest hope disappeared.

Spoiler: Captain Jack Scott (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Void's End (click to show/hide)

K'zan, and Star's Glare (Sinpwn)

With a flick of your hand all of your men hoist their guns, and aim them at the databank, what good it'd do if something did happen you don't know for within seconds the red object retracts back into the machine, and a computerized voice speaks, "Databank Entries: 1, Accessing Now ..., File Name: The Truth." Several fans whir into life, sucking in air to cool some hidden processor, and soon enough another voice takes the previous ones place.

'I don't know who will get this, or who will hear it, but I am sending this message out to everyone out there, something is coming, and its something huge. I don't know what it is, but the advanced scouts, and armies have already damaged our ship greatly, Mankind's greatest Hope is dying as it fights a war to insure the survival of those left behind. This ship was built to fight this beast, and hold it off for as long as it could, but it's not strong enough, the Swarm is to great, and its master to powerful. Hope will die here, but we will insure that this thing will not reach those left behind until they are ready. Prepare, gather allies, and spread the truth of what is coming, we thought we were the strongest, but we were wrong its coming, and it seeks to devour all life.'

'The flames of life Hope has left behind will flourish, and once again Mankind shall reach the stars, but do not seek to be conquerors, and or the richest of all, seek to be the protectors of life for if that fails all will perish. Our flame grows dimmer, and darker this day, the Swarm's master will win, but we will make sure that the Hope of Mankind is left behind to fight on, the North Star's father will be a guiding light to salvation, and within the way to the spark of Hope can be found.'
With that the voice cuts off, and smoke begins to billow from the ancient machine before a small explosion fries all the internal components of the computer. All around you your crewmen lower their weapons, and some wonder off to do other things while others put their heads together to confer on what they've heard. Whatever that was it was much larger then just you, but you aren't sure on how to treat it as what it said doesn't quite make sense.

Spoiler: ?, Scavenger Vessel (click to show/hide)

Aurin Velias, and Misericordia Nex (Tiruin)

Spoiler: Transmission (click to show/hide)

With that your transmission is sent to your fellow captain's ship, and then sent directly to the Merchant Fleet's flagship, a towering ship about six times the size of your bristling with dozens of PD Turrets, and batteries jutting out from alcoves dug into the ship's hull and all around it and the rest of the fleet hundreds of little fighters buzzed about, patrolling, and searching ... for something. "Why in the hell would they have fighters searching for something amidst their own ships?" You mumble as you leave the room once again, and head towards the cargo bay far below.

After several minutes of walking, and using the various elevators spread through the ship you arrive in the vast area that is the cargo bay, cluttered with piles of crates, stacks of munitions, and barrels of rations and water that your crew needs to survive. Just as you arrive the massive doors leading to space slam shut, and a small cargo ship lands in the middle of the bay. Upon its landing dozens of people spring forward, and the bay is filled with activity as missiles are placed in special containers, and taken upstairs to the munitions room and then rations, and other supplies are piled in corners, and secured with metal clamps, and cords to keep them from shifting.

As all this took place the pilot came up to you, and said "I'm sorry, but this is all we could offer. We would have shipped more, but this is more mercenaries then we usually hire, and we've had to spread our supplies very thin. Thanks for your understanding." As he finished his brow was heavy with sweat, and he scurried off back to the ship before you could even give him an answer, he was afraid of you and it was most likely the fault of one of the outlaws or cut-throats that thought they could gain all the power by being mercenaries. Anyway you have more pressing business to attend to as your radio flashes on, and your navigator speaks, "Captain, we'll be arriving at the Warp Gate soon, you need to come up here, and take the helm. After all we're going in first." With that the transmission cuts off, and you are left to yourself to think on the trek back.

Time flies as you run the thoughts through your mind, memories of the past, and one thing keeps coming back to you, it was a lone ship that just appeared out of nowhere, they feared it to be a pirate, but instead of attacking you it turned, and bared its weapon against the hundreds of pirate vessels, alone it stood strong against them. You knew it would not survive for it was alone, and it was nothing more then a Heavy Frigate against dozens more of the same yet it stood in the face of its own death proud with a weird symbol blazed into its side, two branches of some sort, clutched in the talons of a might beast with beak, claw, and wing and a head of white feathers. It looked beautiful, and free, something you weren't. With that last thought you shake yourself out of the stupor as your navigator once again pipes up "Captain we are at the Warp Gate, initiating jump now. Everyone brace yourselves." ... Then the sharp tug of the warp pulls your back, and your vision blurs momentarily from the force of the jump.

In front of you the first things you see are a medium sized planet covered in water, clouds, and the green landscape far below, and shining dimly in the light of system's star a massive station looms up in view. Hundred of docking bays litter its surface, and thousands of ships, fighters, and freighters weave their in and out of its hulking mass. This was one of Mankind's famed Mega-Structures, massive fortresses built in the void that could take on a Capital Ship by itself, but this one looked as if parts had fallen into dis-repair, and around it over a dozen warships drifted through space, broken, with their engines giving off brief spurts of power as they struggled to grasp to life. Some people believe that the Warp Drives gave ships a soul, that they made them come to life and be truly conscious, but you, you weren't exactly sure what to believe, but now was no the time to figure out you had a job to do.

Praetor Valicum Trivonii, and Xiliosh (Xardalas)

"That is very kind of you Captain, as for the work I think we have something you may interested in. Escort me to a bar nearby, and I'll give you the details." Lilian says with a small smile on her face as she gives you a wink. Your crewman quickly pulls a roll of bandages from his back pocket, and a couple of surgical tools from his pocket as he sets to work. Within a minute her leg is bandaged, and several slivers of metal lie on the ground beside the crewman's medical supplies, turns out his name is Flint and he's the doctor on your ship, thing is you didn't even know you had a doctor on board.

With that done you lift Lilian up off the ground, and she uses you to support herself, her one good leg wobbly from the new amount of pressure it is receiving. With that done you head out of the alleyway to find your other crewmen on the wall covered in bruises, cut marks, and a few bullet holes, his wheezy voice comes to you as he says, "Get out of here Captain, the Marauders are coming ...." With that his voice fades, and he begins to cough blood splattering across the ground and with a gasping sound he sucks in once last breath before going limp.

Captain Sai'oda Fresa, and Endless Fury (Dwarmin)

Phase 1: Your Group vs. Malfunc. Droids

You yell for your men to continue firing, and heft your revolver back up to take aim at one of the droids, with a resounding click the familiar push of the gun, and its wild roar calm you a bit. The bullet tears through the right arm of the droid, and its weapon falls to the ground as a solid thunk reaches your ears followed by a blur of motion as Breo runs forward, ripping a knife from  the droid's head he flips over the top and the droid's head snaps back cords straining to hold it in place. Just seconds later the blade of the knife smashes through the exposed neck, and the droid limps uselessly forward onto the floor as Breo tosses its head to the side. Sometimes you forgot that Breo used to be one of the Akatoshi Tribe.

The sound of your crewman's gun firing brings you back to the present, and you turn in time to see the bullets smash into the remaining droid's chest, as you watch you could have sworn you saw the droid move into the shot, but it was most likely your imagination. Turning around you turn to your dead crewman, and close his eyelids before standing up straight and taking a look around. This is how pirate's lives ended, it was a sad truth, but even those who did this for good reason died trying to fulfill that goal. Looking at the shattered glass at your feet you notice Breo's reflection standing beside you, and as you looked up you found him standing there, his gun in one hand, and the six inch bullets that you were so used to seeing him mess with.

"Lets hurry up, and get this done Captain, we don't need to stay here any longer then need be." He said as the latch of his gun slid into place, and he placed it across his back.
