MoonSheep's war on mosquitoes
« on: February 19, 2012, 09:11:30 am »

Giant mosquitoes have been plaguing my fort since day one. They come by every year and in massive amounts. They usually swoop over my fort and pick off a few of my dwarves, but this time my dwarves were harvesting some goblinite from a battle near the edge of the map and then about 70 or so of the buggers happened to spawn at the same edge where my dwarves were, needless to say, I sent my whole army.

So my soldiers went to kill the mosquitoes that were still arriving on the map, protecting about 40 or so dwarves.

The mosquitoes managed to decimate about 2 squads of soldiers, I was surprised since they were able to kill a few of my sword masters and badly wound a few others. My soldiers were decked out in full iron armor with a weapon, shield and cloak each, ranging from normal to masterwork. I ended up having 11-13 dwarves killed, mostly in my military, quite a few civilians were injured in the retreat, I'm setting up additional temporary medical beds.

And so the war begins.

It is said Giant mosquitos are like the elephants of Everoc: They never forgive, they never forget.
They will return.

I'm actually looking forward to the death of my .25 fortress, so I can move on.
What graphics pack is that, by the way? It looks much clearer than the ones I use.

Does no one just use the old school ASCII graphics the game starts with? I like those so much better.

I usually use the ASCII. The fact that every tile is diagonal instead of square annoys me to no end though.

Afaik, there are several ASCII tilesets that correct this, check wiki.
Now, how do you make them work, I cannot tell you.
