I'm at 83 dorfs, no vampires.

not only clued by people histories, but also by the fact that I had no bloodless corpses showing up in a bed

You can prevent vampire dorfs/werebeasts by setting vampirism curse/werebeast curse numbers to "0" in advanced generation settings. But that's the cheap way

Have a fortress with about 150 Dwarfs and at least 1 Vampire, because I got my first victim, Of course found dead and now witnesses. Is there an easy way to find out who the bloodsucker is? Also Dwarf Therapist tells me that my Fort has 148 Dwarfs but my z-screen counts only 145. Is that a clue of vampirism?

*edit: Found my vampire. He sucked blood in the center of my dining room. 35 witnesses were there. sentenced to 200 days Prison."

I got two vampires in the first migration wave, and another one in the second. Also some of the migrants were vampire worshippers, which threw me a bit at first. But the vampires tended to be a bit to quick to accuse others - really, Urist McDwarfbaby did this, you say?  :o

You can't be sure that you don't have one.

I can be sure I have at least one; necromancer turncoats killed all but one citizen (60 or so dwarves). She is contentedly cleaning up the place after the massacre and walks calmly past the zombies.
