Small Chert Rocks or silt or anythign you can throw. Since these zombies tend to... shatter my bones I decided my best option was to throw shit. I picked up silt threw it at them and if it hit which after words tend to collapse. Then if your facing a necromancer throw the corpses far from the tower.

So probably your best option if hand to hand combat isn't working for you

Yeah. Throwing stuff kills most zombies instantly.

retreat is always a valid option when you don't seem to be succeeding too, zombies doesn't seem to be fast enough to catch you if you don't carry too much.

Throwing is incredibly powerful as of 2010 and 2012. Generally it kills everything.
