I learned Dwarf Mode first from some tutorials on YouTube, and then from experimentation guided by the wiki.

Adventure mode was pure wiki.

I played in the most hostile environments I could find. Seemed to work in the end.

Ah.  Nietzschean DF, after a fashion.

Would you say Armok is dead too?   ;D

That is an insane and dangerous plan.  I approve wholeheartedly.

In the beginning when ASCll was poison to my brain I could even now what proportion the game was. I was like "Oh wait, this little face is a city right? How I build a market place? ..." then: Urist McSettler died of thirst X7
Lol same here first time I ran it I though the map was a much larger scale, it made every things very, very, confusing.

Other.

Someone on the Civ V forums mentioned the game. (I have not played that since.) I looked it up and also found the original Urist story. If that doesn't hook ya, Boatmurdered does...

Then I found CaptainDuck's videos, genned a world and surgically attached the wiki to my browser. All has been fine since then. No loss of sanity.
