Dwarf Fortress Political Affiliation POLL
« on: February 18, 2012, 03:14:16 pm »

A non-scientific, non-optimised casual poll!
I'm just curious as to the DF forums alignments, I swear I won't take your names down for when the revolution begins  :P

Post reasons if you want to. Try not to argue though, ideological arguments are largely a matter of opinion and can never end well.

I voted Socialist, because I believe no matter what, people trump profitability.

I feel nonplussed.

"Come one come all to vociferously argue your half-assed personal stances on purely academic concepts within a binary rubric."  Exactly what we needed.

I haven't a goddamn clue what I am, but I align mostly with liberals.

I try not to align with any one organization, but rather look at every issue independently. This makes me quite radical on some issues and smack dab in the middle on others, since I don't have a compass of any sort to follow except my gut feeling and experience.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I'm very much in the middle. Historically and in terms of principles, Conservative. Relevance to today's world, Liberal.

I'm a libertarian socialist variety of anarchist, similar to Chomsky.

And it took me a very long time to compare my own conclusions with the various labels out there, and figure out which one best described the majority of my political beliefs.

Anti-hypocrisy, pro-expertise... which means I near violently hate almost every politician in the world and mildly dislike the majority of people that actually associate themselves with the labels presented in the poll. Exceptions when they actually know what the hell they're talking about, of course, but that's rare. Also why I don't associate myself with said labels -- I know enough to know I don't know enough and need to shut up about making many prescriptive statements ♪

However, anti-hypocrisy does mean I side against most (American) conservative social values... lot of the liberal ones, too, really, but mostly conservative. On the other issues, I'm a "stop doing stupid shit, start doing shit that works" (ohey, pro-expertise) type fellow, which means the positions bounce all over the place. Because the general constituency -- and especially the leadership -- of both those groups are g'damn idiots, at least when they start aggregating together.

I feel nonplussed.

My political beliefs are that nothing can work for too long. Society is the result of the equal and opposite reaction of everyone trying to rule everything. So many people working against each other it actually settles into something resembling law and order.

It's still a fluid and chaotic mix under the surface. As such, I consider it foolhardy to pick a specific party or philosophy and instead always judge the options available based upon their practicality for the situation.

You sound like a Technocrat to me frumps.
Quote from: Wikisaysitmustbetrue
Technocracy is a largely hypothetical form of government in which science would be in control of all decision making. Scientists, engineers, technologists and other highly skilled technical experts, including economists, would compose the governing body, in the place of professional politicians.
