Ravenmist [Corrosion | 34.01] (UPDATING TO 34.02)
« on: February 18, 2012, 12:42:48 am »

Ravenmist
A Corrosion Succession Game
NOTICE : I will be starting a new fort in 34.02 and with a bug fix for Corrosion. It should be up soon.

This is a Corrosion Succession for 34.01. Visit this link for more details and to download. In a nutshell, Corrosion is a zombie apocalypse total conversion for DF. The prominent new feature in 34.01 is the ability for zombies to turn your humans into zombies (something I'm very excited about :D ) Because of this new development I'm creating a succession game. This is the first fortress I've played in the latest version beyond quick testing, so we'll all stumble about together!

Forts in Corrosion tend to be short lived and FUN filled. The few community forts in the past have died quickly. Because of this I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE. This mod is the equivalent of playing a new game. I'd like to have this fort last a few years :P

Because of this I will be slightly biased in my choosing of line up. I will be playing the first year, then it's first come first serve. However there will be 3 reserved slots (turns number 2, 3, and 4) for people who have experience with Corrosion and are confident in their abilities to manage a fort (Storytelling is also a plus). Since I can't prove it, just say you have experience and say you want a reserved slot. Otherwise, grab a spot now, download the mod, play around with it to get the hang of it.

Other then that, if you want a turn or to be 'hummied' shout out and I'll add you to the list!

As far as rules go there is only one; Beware their bite, lest you join their ranks. Unless that's what you want to do, in which case we have one locked in a room somewhere.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The people sang this with every waking moment on our journey. I had given up telling them to be quiet miles ago. If an Infected jumped out of a bush and swallowed one of them whole, I would need every drop of energy to run.

I was not from these people. I have never been to ‘The Old Furnaces’ (Not the ‘Old Furnaces’ mind you but ‘The Old Furnaces’), sometimes I wish I was part of them though, sharing in these joyful moments of bliss and ignorance. They were the lucky ones, when the Infection broke loose, their parents and grandparents were safely tucked away in a steel plant. I barely made it out of town with my face --Instinctively I reached up and stroked the three long gashes across my cheek-- now I look like some kind of ghoulish football player.

Of course my dad taught me something special while we were fleeing among the screams and cries. There’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity, and too many people cross it. I wasn’t a coward, but I knew when to take a tactical decision to considerably prolong my life expectancy. I can’t help but cringe at the poor soul who gets called brave. If he dies, he’s dead for nothing. If he lives, he’ll never live up to that moment. Two horrible deaths if you ask me.

Finally their chorus came to a halt “How much farther?” Someone asked

Sighing I whipped out a map that was in my hand

“Just over this hill.” I announced folding the map back up

“What hill?” They asked glaring around at the surprisingly  flat, foggy, murky swamp.

I chuckled slightly “Don’t worry about it, we’ll be there within the hour.”

For a moment, silence, brief, peaceful silence “Well.” Someone else bellowed “I think we have time for another song!” Everyone cheered and as my head hit my hand they started again “We lit a fire many years ago!…”

-----

“Alright stop here.” I calmly commanded as the wagon came to a halt, the pack animals waved their heads about in both confusion and a pinch of terror.

I hopped off the wagon and promptly sunk into the dank mud. The Swamps of Branding, what a hole. I looked around at the sagging dead trees, the sparse grass-mostly-mud ground, shallow pools dotted the landscape. The fog had settled over the landscape, making the entire area look like a picture on a gray canvas.

The people behind me whispered nervously, as I peered over my shoulder, they all had the expression of being lost “This is what you signed up for boys. Don’t act so surprised.”

They all stared at me wide eyed before fumbling for their pockets. All but one pulled out a flask and chugged it. The one who didn’t gave me a crumpled faded letter.

“Nay sir.” They said grabbing a flask from his friend “This is what we signed up for.”

I glared at him as I whipped open the note.

‘Tired of the tiring work in the factory? Ready for some work outdoors? Then sign up for the Farmer Corp of The Old Furnace! Feed your fellow man! And feed those Infected scum bullets!’

I twitched, this wasn’t my contract, where were my six able-bodied-well-disciplined-military-trained killers!? Staring in horror at the print, so much money, so much time. Wasted. I will have to salvage this, somehow. Its not like I would have told them why they were really here anyways.

“Uh… YES! Of course! Welcome to uhh….” I glanced around looking for anything that I can use to name this pitiful façade, a bird cawed up in a tree “Raven… mist… Yeah Ravenmist! Welcome to the future Ravenmist! Our future farmland!”

They looked around, a single person clapped for a short time, but no one seemed very convinced “This place is horrible farmland.” someone said

I recoiled, placing my finger on my lip “Yes… of course… but that’s the beauty of it! Where are our enemies going to look for a farm? Not a swamp that’s for sure!”

They murmured amongst themselves, stared at me, then murmured some more. Pleasepleaseplease stay… Finally one poked his head from the circle

“Do you have ale?” He asked

I couldn’t tell if I was sweating because I was nervous or because of the dampness “Yes.”

They looked at each other “We’re in.”

Sighing I extended my hand "Now it's about time I got to know you a little better..."

Sweating from the accursed damp swamp, stood a man named Dan Mcneele. He had an iron shovel and a hunting rifle slung around his back in an X shape. He took his apparent leader's hand and shook it firmly.

"Name's Dan. Dan Mcneele."

can i get humied? farmer/brewer Cloudy McThomas, please. also, RP-wise: he can play the guitar and does so often. He practically speaks in rhymes, too. RP time!

In the back of the wagon, Cloudy tuned his guitar. He struck a chord. "Perfect." he said. Then he started playing. People joined the song, and soon the Old Furnaces Anthem was audible for miles. Cloudy didn't sing. He just struck chord after chord. When the song was over, he instantly changed the tune to another, ancient song from a long forgotten era. Everyone still sang the Old Furnaces Anthem. He smiled wryly. Then he put his guitar away. The chorus began to die away. "Come on, Cloudy! Do the Old Furnaces again!" someone said. "No." Cloudy replied and jumped off the wagon. Then he walked up to the leader of the expedition, Pureheart. "How much farther?" he asked...

Done and done :D

Either of you two want a turn?

-----

We're going to stay in 34.01 by the way, mostly because these epic poems don't make themselves! The only thing that affect us anyways are these two bugfixes

* made removing designations cancel active jobs again.

* wagons.

Can I be humified as Rurik? Throw him into your military.
I've never played your mod, so I think I'll take a little practice run before I decide on whether to take a turn.

Dear Urist: I, the overseer, appreciate your point of view about the danger that an unarmed goblin can represent at the other side of a fortification when you try to kill it with a ballista, but, as you know, you're not paid to think. And a mindless worker is a happy worker, so shut up and do your job.

You are a Hero, an fantasy adventure with dragons, mages, ninjas and Norse mythology
