Garath, I could see that... but my dwarves in FurnaceClans are buried inside and I'm only melting down = (Exquisites), so I can't see what else could have caused it.  No combat reports from my dwarves for having shot something that made a run for it.

With the OMG, there's just about no way a thief can live to get into the fortress.   With all the dwarves on the central staircase, certainly not undetected.

I can't see any other way I'd be getting the complaint.

If you've ever sent your crossbow squad topside, they likely left piles of bolts at the edge of the screen. Some of those bolts are probably masterworks, and kobold thieves aren't shy about stealing spent ammunition--particularly if they can't reach anything more valuable.

Hadn't thought of that.  That's got possibilities, actually.  Thanks.

Is there a way to get the worldgen seed from a game in progress?

If I recall, Press Esc, then Local Image Export. After you export any image the world gen is also exported in the usual form.

I have to write something... well here goes:

Doktoro Reichard is quite pleased with making a Great Carbonite Trap

Why shouldn't you write with a broken pencil? Because it's pointless!

Not sure about this, but is there a text file with the world parameters created automatically during generation? Otherwise, you might have to backup the region, retire, go to legends mode, and then export.

Silly question, never really had to do this before in trading, which is why I'm having a funload trying to figure it out: I'm trading with the elves *gasp* and selling some of my fancy prepared food for some assortments of cloth and cheaper, lesser, elven food, and whatever else strikes my fancy.

However, my prepared food is in a wooden barrel. How do I select ONLY the food *inside* the barrel? The wiki was unhelpful, and taking it back to my stockpile to try and 'S'earch for the food didn't work either. My only idea is that I could forbid the barrel, and if it forbade the food, unforbidding it.

I could seize the stuff I want, but..

Any suggestions?

I don't think you can just select the food inside the barrel. It WOULD be great if we could, yes.

Try putting the food into a stockpile that doesn't allow barrels.

Piles of prepared meals greater than 10 units won't fit in barrels, so those are easy to trade to the elves.  If you're dead set on trading all your prepared meals to the elves, then you can make metal barrels, or stone pots.  But you'll still have to get the meals out of the existing wooden barrels (probably by dumping).

Why are my water buffalos starving to death while standing on grass? (not pastured, they can freely roam and eat whatever they want)

Because buffalos need to eat a lot. They can easily starve if not supervised.

There may not be enough grass or it may not be a region where it grows back fast enough for them to eat. Or they may be wandering around off of grass as well, which means they won't be able to eat. Non-pastured pets tend to flock around meeting areas and the starting wagon, if it is still assembled.

So I just had a friendly Macedwarf show up on the edge of my map. Just now noticed him while scrolling through units.

Am I correct in assuming that he's a werebeast?

Possibly. Though I've only ever seen peasant werebeasts, but that may just be my luck.

There is also the chance that it is actually a caravan guard that got stuck on his way out. Check his inventory, if he has equipment, then he is not a werebeast.

Werebeasts are always announced, aren't they?  Even if they're not transformed?  My guess would be a stuck caravan guard.

Yeah, you guys are probably right. He's gone now and there were no announcements.

It just threw me off that he was listed as Friendly instead of Merchant in the units page.

Is it possible to make stuff dropped by dead (corpses, loot, etc) to be forbidden by default?
