I have a human vampire law-giver diplomat hanging around my fortress. Can I accuse him of a crime and lock him away (with my dwarf vampire) forever, or will that make his home civilization angry?

Maybe and yes, also I think he'd eventually go nuts.

On archery ranges and saving volts

Been following the wiki guide and trying to make the bolts fall down a zlevel and. Sont seem to work, they stop when they hit the range and fall down as broken bolts in front (graphic, not as an item)

Was Ranges made solid in some way so that the bolts could not be recycled anymore?

when they hit the range they break, usually. The bolt saving is about when they hit walls or otherwise miss the target. If whatever they hit instead has no floor in front, they (used to) fall down 1 z-level instead and remain intact. I havn't heard anyone saying that changed

You can't recycle bolts that hit the target, only ones that miss.

Ok, thanks seems i misunderstood :)

Second Question. How to reorder my squads, so i can group them on melle rangeed etc.

Pri/assigment when i am in the equip screen seems to do this, but it does not carry over from the reorder screen itself...

I'd love it if that's possible, but I don't think it is short of disbanding and recreating the squads.  :(

I have a quick question, is there any way to remove dead shrubs or saplings?

Building a dirt road ("b" "O") will strip the ground bare and the vegetation will eventually regrow.

after some time they'll disappear anyway, probably at a similar speed as making the dirt road and waiting for that to degrade

I genned up a new world with 5 different Dwarven civs. One of them is all the way in the southeast corner with only 1 tile. It does not appear to have iron or steel.

I chose that civ to start out as, but failed to realize until I had everything just the way I wanted it in embark that neither iron nor steel anvils are available to embark with. Now, this in itself is not a problem, but if I cannot trade for an anvil I cannot play this fortress. What do?

Will the caravan have anvils available?

they should still have steel anvils. Due to strangeness dwarf civs have steel even if they don't have iron

They should. I was confused by the lack of anvil. It's under the 'Furniture' category in embark, isn't it? That category does not even exist for this civ. This is actually pretty strange; I haven't actually embarked yet but I HAVE saved my embark template so I'm gonna back out and save a copy of this world.

But seriously, there isn't a steel anvil under any of the categories I would THINK it would be under. I didn't check 'meats' or 'ropes (thread)' and the like for obvious reasons.

EDIT: Okay, so that's probably a bug... I originally had selected my first profile - 'Quickfort' - and it contains an iron anvil. Since that wasn't available it of course dropped me into prepare carefully saying it wasn't completed. No problem. Except I couldn't find steel anvils either - even by typing in 'steel' and 'anvil' when adding new items.

Gonna test this a bit more and then maybe file a report.

Thanks!

Did you have enough points for a steel anvil (300 I think)?  If not, the option won't even be given to you, I believe.
