On the world map, find a tile that looks like a weapon trap. Thats a Volcano.

How to find region with open magma vent for embark?
If you mean a volcano, look for a ^ on the embark map.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but in adventure mode, I seem to be incapable of becoming a vampire. I kill it, drink its blood, but nothing happens. I tried drinking until I was "full", and at night, but I still stayed human. Any suggestions?

If you drink vampire blood, you instantly become a vampire.
There is no announcement or anything, you simply become a vampire.

Run around the world a bit now, you will see you don't get hungry anymore
and can suck blood from unconcious creatures.

I know that bit, I'm still getting hungry/thirsty and can't drink blood. Tried two more times with the same result.

How about drainage, is there an FPS caring approved method? I have an aquifer and a river so plenty of options.

If your aquifer is handy, that's probably the most compact and efficient (speed-wise, fps-wise) drain.

Do infernal ash thralls fight eachother? Currently, my dwarves are hunkering down behind our 15 wooden doors, and the livestock have all been turned into thralls, as well as the 10 odd giant wrens flying about, and they appear to be killing eachother, except the wrens that are on higher z-levels than to other wrens, even when there are wrens right next to them, are not fighting...
EDIT: Oh, now all of them are fighting. There really isn't much that can rival the sight of giant wren body parts flying from the sky...

So, it seems that booze variety is much more important to dwarven happiness in the latest update (or am I wrong?).

Does anyone have any good tips on making sure that my brewer makes a variety of drinks?

I think it was some kind of bug, because I generated a new world and it worked fine. Question closed.

Although if you still have that world kicking around in your save folder, it might be worth uploading it and posting on the bug tracker.

Does anyone have any good tips on making sure that my brewer makes a variety of drinks?

When starting a brewing job, your brewer picks up plants which are closest to him and carries them
to the still, you can control which plants are available for making alcohol by pressing z and then going
to the kitchen menu. Every cookable or brewable item in your fortress will be listed.

If you have of lot dwarven wine (made from plump helmets), find plump helmets in the menu,
press b to toggle whether or not they are allowed to be used in the still and your brewer will now
look for anything BUT plump helmets when he makes alcohol.

This way if your dorf likes fisher berry wine for example, you can disable every other plant but fisher berries
for brewing and your brewer will use them to make alcohol.

You can do this for food and cooking too.

(if I say brew one more time, I'm going to catch on fire.)

Can animals detect/prevent/(report?) the dry sucking of your legendary+5 weaponsmith if they're next to the bed?

oooh this is a nasty one, poor fellow :)


I have a problem, by crossbowman, after having emptied his quiver then finished a wolf with the crossbow but, is now stationed back at home. I gave him some rest even, and he took profit of that to wash himself, drink and eat... but he don't want to replenish his quiver! And I an assure you I have many bolts around at his disposal. Even setting him to kill a deer will not trigger that, he will go straight to the animal, with crossbow and empty quiver... Why? Is it just a question of delay? Or he is not in the mood, or a lingering bug? I gave him ample time to think about how his quiver is empty...

Go to military ammunition screen and unassign all ammo and then reassign it.
