A building destroyer will stop to break an unlocked hatch. They will also break any hatch that they could get to from above, even if they would have to walk one thousand tiles and pass through an automatic ice trap and your axelord barracks in order to do so.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I think grates are the same as well (the dwarven checkerboard thing for example). Maybe floor bars

Thank you all!

Nex question: I'm trying to make a silk farm with a gigant cave spider (not tame) and a rat (not tame). But it is not working. There is a one step air gab between them but free sight, is this the reason?

or is it because I restrained the spider?

tried to put some sheep in, but did not shoot at them either.

edit: It works when the spider is not restrained :)

What is the maximum dwarfs allowed? The max of population cap?
I've set mine at 180 and don't remember the maximal allowed cap...

I don't think there is a maximum cap. The 'cap' is really going to be how much your computer can handle as far as FPS goes.

Do melancholy/insane vampires die eventually? Just wondering because the captive vampire that I have got a possessed mood and went melancholy. I let him out of his prision, though I don't think he does the blood sucking anymore.

I don't know if I need to make a high place for the melancholy dwarf to commit suicide off of or something.

Haven't had a melancholic vampire yet, but my stark raving mad vampire simply took off all his clothes and went to the nearest meeting area, which is his personally assigned office on a little tower. In an old yearly save, i let him out of his tract and he went to the common meeting hall and kept hanging out there. Vampires indeed seem to stop sucking blood when they go crazy, and they still will need neither drink nor food nor sleep nor air; they're just as immortal as the nominally-sane type and much less of a nuisance.

The insane vampire decided to go outside the fort entrance and is just... wandering? In any case, maybe an ambush will get him.

melancholy usually die from random wandering into hazardous terrain, more usually from dehydration. Vampires are quite tough and don't need to eat or drink, so you have him untill he spots an ambush for you. If he's still on the official citizen list, it'd have been a good fail-safe to keep the fort alive even if the rest of the dorfs is killed

It's worth noting that melancholic and raving dwarves will still respect burrow orders. I don't believe berserk dwarves will, though.
